Getting my HWY1 tele anyday now, and am curious to know if anyone happily left their stock pups in there... Or should I brace myself for mushy-mud?

I've taken the standard tele (not texas) with the rosewood board...

The pups are decent, if I remember right they are the same ones that are in the mexi-teles. They aren't all mud, but clarity with gain isn't really there. They sound best clean, to my ears.

I would brace myself ,if I were you, I loved my stock tele pups in my MIA tele...........then I listened to the SD soundclips.

All that said, the Hwy. 1 guitars are a fantastic guitar, and great value!

Just my thoughts on it.

mmmmkay, it will be here soon, and i shall be braced, mkay?

The stock hwy1 pickups are the same pickups used in the Mexican series guitars. They're not quot;badquot; pickups, and Not really muddy (in my opinion). But they're not fantastic either.
I actully played a Hwy1 tele just the other day at a local guitar shoppe. Same as your (rosewood board, not the texas tele). And I actully really dug the way it sounded. I mean The pickups are the same as the Mim tele, But its got a totally different body wood (alder, as oppoused to polar on the Mim). So They really don't sound similar at all (which surprised me). And didn't seem Muddy to me, But I never use Massive amounts of distortion. so I dunno.

I'de say don't quot;brace yourselfquot; for them to suck. Just don't be surprised. Who knows it might arrive and you might love it. Don't be surprised though if it sounds so bad you can taste the poo.

These guys are right...they are the same as the MIM Classic series and they are good...not great but good. They will hold you over until you replace them!
