I don't know which board this belongs in so I figured it has to do with pickups... in a way...
Which wireless systems are of good quality but still reasonable in price? Are there any good ones within $200?
I like my Shure system. It's about 10 years old or so but it hasn't failed me at all, good range, and my tone remains intact (very important to listen for).
What about price? How much does a simple Shure system go for?
It was under $200 back when I bought it I know that. Not sure what they go for now. Check some of the online shops but I highly recommend trying before buying. If you got a good salesman helping you, he'll let you walk all around the place. That's what I did. I ended up upstairs in the drum room area and could still hear it.
Any more info on wireless, anyone?
I've been using a Samson VHF-TD for about 4 years now and I really like it. I even record with it.
Samson have a new one called the Stage 55, it a True diversity system that sells here in canada for about $170 Canadian. I was impressed when I first tried it.
Sounds like a good deal. Is the quality of sound consistent though?
What I mean is will it be free from interference, and will it sound as good as it would through a cable?

Sounding as good as with a cable is a tough thing to do for under $200. Mine is totally interference free and sounds really transparent (a good thing in a wireless) My ears and my amp settings have adapted to the point where I find that when I use a cable, it's too bright... Sound is consistant and the volume control on the guitar is just as sensitive as with a cable.
Hope that helps!
Both Shure and Sennheiser make solid, mid-priced wireless systems in the $300 range. I'd recommend those before the $200 or less stuff. Most of the lesser expensive models are VHF, single frequency, single antenna units that tend to color your tone and drop out in less than perfect conditions. Nothing is more frustrating than a wireless thats breaking up during a performance.
Personally I use a Shure ULX-S that I have rack mounted with a front side antenna kit and it works great but it is a bit pricey. The thing is with wireless though that the UHF stuff does tend to work and sound better but it costs more.
I bought a Samson AP1 wireless unit from a forum bro, (the one with the quot;guitar bugquot; that fits either a strat type or a LP type input, no body pack) and have had great success with it, as long as I remember to turn the bug off and not run the battery down. It's UHF based.
I haven't used it live, but it works great with my rig. Strangely, it doesn's color the sound that I can tell, but it does cut down on some of the hiss from my high gain Marshall. Anyhow, I paid less than $200 because I bought it used, but they sell for $199 last time I checked ebay. I love it.
Here's a pic exactly like mine:Here's annother very similar type unit. If I was buying again, I would probably buy this one for a little more because the bug converts to either a strat style or a flat LP/Tele style. On my unit I would have to buy two seperate bugs.
