I have a Duncan Custom in the bridge position of my Ibanez Musician. I absolutely love the sound, now I need something to put in the neck position that will match up with it. I want something that will give a nice smooth lead tone with moderate distortion. Any thoughts?
I would suggest the jazz or alnico 2 pro.
Jazz---The jazz is an articulate neck pup that sounds great tuned standard or detuned. It has good highs and mids. I personally use it and like it very much.
Alnico 2 Pro---The A2P is a smooth pup with great string to string response. It is very warm and balanced. I have one of these in the bridge slot of my Heritage and love the even sound.
Hope this helps man!
Luke
I agree
Good suggestions above.
The 59N and Pearly Gates are two more.
The Jazz is kind of like a 59 with a little less bass and a little more upper harmonics. Both are alnico 5.
Some people have commented that the PG is brighter than the A2Pro and others have commented that the A2Pro has a little more texture to the treble and a tone that is fat and smooth like a humbucker but with a little bit of the tone of a Strat single coil mixed in.
I can't decide which one I like best! In a Les Paul, it'd probably be the Pearly Gates, but the A2Pro is fabulous too.
Hard Rockers and players who play with alot of distortion and rarely go for a genuinely clean rythym tone seem to prefer the a5 59N and sometimes the Jazz.
Players who favor a clean to lightly overdriven tone for rythym seem to appreciate the A2Pro and Pearly Gates...or Seth Lover.
