I just put some Phat Cats in my PRS Santana and man , those PUs rock !!!
After several trials to get the right tone from this axe , I finally found its voice .
My Santana sings now !!!
The Phat cat is a real jaw dropper . I'm a big P90s user for years and I never thought I could get such a huge P90 tone from this hybrid PU.
Now I convinced , Phats have every thing . Chimey tone , ringing highs , grinding bass ... Everything from a P90 !
For the neck position , I was not 100% pleased with the tone, maybe due to 24 frets neck of the guitar so I tried a bridge PU in the neck position and there I got it !
Only thing I would expect is a RWRP option on those PU to get the chunky middle position as on a Mc Soap ! Could you please think about it Mr Duncan !
Phat Cat Rules !!!
I thought the Phat Cats already had the RWRP option. Anyway, it's great to hear that you like 'em. I LOVE them, and I'm currently trying to find a pickup that sounds like them in a real P-90 for my Reverend Slingshot Custom. For me, they sit perfectly between Single Coil chime and PAF grind, without actually being very hot. I went through a lot of PAF pickups and something in the tone was always missing. I've stopped at the Phat Cat because it has the perfect amount of PAF vibes and single coil vibes.
I just installed a Phat Cats set in a LP this morning and yes they are all that.
If you installed two bridge models and dig the tone but are missing the rw/rp in the middle position you should be able to remove the cover from one of the PCs, flip the magnet and swap the coil wires at the lead connections.
That will get you rw/rp. Call the factory and ask one of the techs if it is physically possible to do that. I haven't opened one up before but it should be. If it sounds like too big of a hassle, send in one of yours and have the folks at SD do it for you. It'll probably only cost a couple of bucks plus shipping.
love my phat cat!!
I posted a questiion on Harmony Central about SD Phat Cats or Dimarizo Blues buckers and, WOW, did they ever trash the Phat Cats. But on another forum they were quite up on the Phats. Go figure?
What did they have to say about the Cats that was so bad? Not P-90-enough?
I have Phat Cats in a LP Special, and they are GREAT! Nice and LOUD, dirty at 10, and clean up nicely.
SO.... I am with the person a few posts back. I have another Special that has P-90 sized routes. NOW, I want to find a soapbar P-90 that has the guts that the Phat Cat does. Anyone have some advice? Thanks!
Phat Cat = my favorite pickup
