Hi,
I'm switching out my 59n to get a neck pickup that is splittable, and I want to try something else. I have a CC in the bridge on my Washburn CTS /w Mahogany body, rosewood fretboard.
I'm looking for something that can do well in distortion/high gain, but is still clean and splits well. I have been looking at the PG. Any suggestions?
I have a Marshall AVT 50, and the 59 is too boomy.
Thanks,
Tol
I am not sure how they split but, the pearly gates and the alnico II pro will be solid neck pickups. Possibly the Jazz also.BTW, welcome to the forum!!
Hey thanks,
From the other postings, looks like the PG and A2P are pretty popular here. I think I'll probably go with PG. I like the 59 but I think the the PG will cover more ground. I kind of want a more metal/shred pickup too, but I think I'll wait for another guitar.

I'll say go with the Full Shred Neck.
It splits well and sounds really good in the neck slot, under high gain.
welcome ... yeah, any 4-wire pup will allow you to do splits (you can even order a 59 in 4 wire version) ... the PGn is a cool pup with its intentionally uneven coils ... i am not sure which coil (the hotter or cooler) is on when split ... i really like the AIIP for gain (everything from slash to santana to allan bros are doable) and split is very cool too, especially when combined witha split bridge humbucker (i use it with a split JB)
if your 59 is too boomy, have you adjusted the height or individual pole pieces to try to dial it in the way you like?
good luck

Those would be my three faves...
Personally, with an alnico 2 pickup like the Custom Custom I like another alnico 2 for the neck humbucker.
The Jazz will have more bass and the upper harmonics will be a little more extended, but I use the Pearly Gates myself and love it...less bass than the Jazz or 59N and a clearer tone at overdriven volumes.
At lower/cleaner volumes the JazzN and 59N are superb pickups too, but when playing at a loud volume or overdriven tone setting they have a little more bass than I need and I can get a clearer tone from an alnico 2 neck humbucker like the PG, A2Pro or Seth Lover.

Thanks to everyone for helping, awesome.
I still like the 59, but want something that is similar but can handle more gain and less bassy. I'm still leaning to the PG. The PG and 59 would be consider similar right? Both being PAFs? But would the magnet change it a lot?
Thanks,
Tol
You can also convert a 2-wire pickup to 4-wire, so learn to do that and you can save money on a new pickup.
