I've got an alder body strat with a maple/pau ferro neck. My music style is hard rock and metal.
I'm looking for a bridge Trembucker.
Here's my comments on the pickups I've tried so far:
Screamin' Demon: Excellent clarity, maybe a little light on the low end, but is a bit too low output. It has a certain quack or jangliness to it that reminds me of a single coil. I wan't more balls, but I like the clarity and bite.
JB: Has a good overall tone and output, but seems a bit mushy.
Custom: The tone is a bit too scooped sounding. To me, it seems kinda generic sounding. Lacks character and punch. Sounds okay, but I'm not thrilled.
I want something clear and punchy and fairly aggressive sounding with a bit of bite. What would you guys suggest I try next?
Hands down, the Full Shred!!!!! Its the clarity king under the nastiest distortion and it also has lots of bite.
INVADER
Great punch and clarity. Doesn't come in a Trembucker version, but that isn't needed, it has big caps on it so it picks up everything you will want it to.
Great bridge position humbucker!
Rock On
The FS is quite good. Of course, I myself love the JB. Right now for my rock/metal Strat I'm using a Custom5 in the bridge. I really like it...tight, focused.
Mark
Dimebucker.
I installed a Screamin' Demon Trembucker in my Alder 1/pu strat last fall and I just love it. I replaced an EMG 81. I liked that pickup too, but I think the demon has more feel to it and it works well with the volume knob. I really don't use pedals anymore. Just the pickup volume knob and amp.
Don't try the Invader, try the full shred. I changed my mind
Sounds like you want a Duncan Distortion.
