Hi Guys, Ive been playing my acoustic alot lately and in the last 3 days ive broken two strings, each time trying to tune to an alternate tuning. On my acoutsic ive tried alot of open d5 tunings,and while tuning back to eb my b string broke. While i was trying to tune up my G string it snapped as well. Both break have occured at the tuning peg. Is something wrong here? i used to be able to do alternate tuning perfectly fine. I also use daddarrio EJ17 medium strings (.013-.056) I used to use lights but my assumption was that lighter strings will break and soudn bad under unique tunings?

One ide ai have but i may be wrong is that the way i string my guitars i leave about an inch of slap on it before tuning it up, should i leave or less?
