I just scored an original 1976 58 reissue explorer with the original pickups in it. The tail peice, bridge, tuners, frets, and humbucker covers have a good deal of wear and or gunk on them. Do you think I should replace them with new ones or just clean off all the gunk and keap the aged look? And how would I go about cleaning off all that stuff?
The pickups are't PAF's if they're original on that guitar. Some pictures would help though.
I agree about the pickups.
If all the hardware functions properly, I would just clean the whole guitar with naphta. Afterwards, polish the guitar as you normally would.
Yeah if the hardware is still 100% functional just give it some naptha or denatured alcohol and you should be good.
