Very cool.... Marshall And Music Man Amps...The Clapton influence!
Pre Floyd Rose on his strat? How the heck did he stay in tune?
cool pics... has alex always played with 2 kicks?
They look so young. And the milk crate drum riser is awesome.
Is there a Music Man amps in there? I see Marshall 4 holer stacks (pic 1195), the SVT and Acoustic 360 heads on Mike's side of the stage...and what looks like another Ampeg on top of a folded horn cab on the far far right (pic 1240).

In the top pictures I see 2 Music Man amps or a MM Head on a MM cab,but they're in there....Not sure if EVH is going through them or Anthony?
Notice the pickup switch is in the neck position on Ed's Strat? You think he used the neck pup or just wired it his own way?

Those early Fender strats Eddie used in 75/76 were from the early 60's... These are the best photos i've seen of him with the sunburst strat.... I have seen some photos of Ed with a Black early 60's strat too.... Ed later said he really messed these guitars up....
PS- there is some great Who photos on that site as well from 1976 and 72.....
Heard dome old clips from back then...he really had some great things going on.
It is not always great being lockep up in a certain frame...people and fans should sometimes accept that players really needs to go through phases.
I would love to see Ed do his own thing...not as Van Halen, just something with his brother and some others perhaps??

I have heard a few Boots from the mid-late 70's where they do early versions of tunes that ended up on albums years later.... House Of Pain on the 1976 Gene Simmons demo tape is GREAT!!!! Voodoo Queen-(Mean Street) rocked in concert back then.... as did the tune Fools that i've heard from atape from a 1976 high school gig they did...
Lol yeah I got that demo on my pc
And I thought to myself...they have played those things for a very long time, no wonder Eddie burnt out alittle.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that one, killer stuff! I dig the pics of Eddie with the Explorer...that's kinda rare! I've seen a couple of him with a Tele, 335 amp; Pauls too. BTW did anyone notice that the quot;Fenderquot; logo on that Strat is in an odd place or is that just an example of the ****ty 70's QC? lol
I think Alex has always played with two kick drums...I've never seen a picture or heard a tape of him with a single bass kit.

I've got an old interview with him somewhere, where he explains how he strung his guitars up to make them stay in tune better. I'll see if I can find it.
Was that an explorer or one of the old 'lawsuit' Destroyers he used to play?
There is a bootleg album out there in Van Halen's name, but not actually released by them (naturally!) with stuff from before their first record. They were playing auditoriums and the like. There are a lot of covers, and several otherwise unrecorded originals that never made it onto one of their albums.
I got a copy of it, two discs, and they played some awesome tunes. Not the greatest recordings, but most of them have been remastered. Ed shreds on some Derringer, ZZ, and Sabbath.
Thanks Rid!!

No, at one time he used 4.
Thanks RID...
COuld it be that Eddie´s actually playing a standard strat in most of those pics??
Ed's tricks for trying to keep those early non floyd strats in tune were pretty much a Brass nut.... 3-In-1 Oil... Wind the strings up the post instead of down to remove some string binding tention off the nut.... As well as E Flat tuning that takes some of that string pressure off as well helps...
Ed in one interview i think was not 100% telling the truth but he claims he uses a pair of pliars to twist the string ends in the tremblock as the stringstwist in there when tuning..... What the heck he was going on about i have no idea....
I also remember reading once that he cut a standard strat trem quot;in halfquot; so that the bar only affected the treble strings.... my memory may be failing, though
I remember reading that too, Zerb.
Thanks for the pics, Rid.
