Just took out Jazz and distortion from V and installed antiquities. Sweet! It sounds like melo with mojo ... kinda tom petty meets AC/DC. Ants didn't work well in my LP custom but in V they are quot;wowquot;. I think you should send that quot;Vquot; to me for sonic evaluation. I am afterall the quot;Metal Butterfly Masterquot;.

my thought exactly

I forgot you had that V! Those aged covers look great on that killer lookin V.

I've wanted one of those ever since I was 13, seeing KK Downing and Rudolph amp; Michael Schenker, but never had one.

tom petty meets ac/dc....now i'd like to hear that...sounds real mellow but real nasty at the same time???!!!! (my dream tone!)

Why didn't the ants work in your LP custom?

I think that's Scott Miller...

BTW nice V... I don't really like them but this one's quite cool

Right now I have an APHn/C5 combo with 500k pots in my V but havent had a chance to really dig into it...

At the moment I'm afraid that it might be a bit too bright.. so far it has been for the couple hours I played it. If the C5 is too bright, I'll place an A2 mag in the C5 and try it again.

But it seems you got it right trying to nail down that mellow tone with the Ants. That is sort of what I've been trying to get but with some punch in there.

Does anyone know why the same PuPs sound different in two different guitar re: Lesters or V's?

You know even two strats sound different with the same pickups. I think that's the way it is. The only thing I can do is trying different pickups until you find the right match between pickups and guitars.

I have a APHn / CCb combo with spin-split using 3 dual concentric pots
Volume 1 / split neck pickup
Volume 2 / split bridge pickup
Tone neck / Tone bridge

I can combined the two split humbuckers to make one pseudo / asymetrical HB.
Lots of nice combinations.

Note the quick connect in the second picture

did you wire that yourself??? looks like a mine field in there (no disrespect intended... just looks like a complex wiring scheme)

where did you come up with that idea?

Yeah, I did the wiring myself. The spin-split idea came from this site.
from : localhost//website...techtips.shtml

I just applied the idea to both pickups. I wired one split-control to turn off the neck fixed (slug) coil and the other turns off the bridge adjustable (screw) coil.

The coils are phased so they act like a single humbucker when combined with the selector switch.

Since I was using dual concentric pots for volume / split, I decided to use a third pot for two tone controls.

The control cavity is fairly tight on the V so I added the quick disconnect to enable pickup swapping without a lot of rework. I color coded the wiring from the control assembly to match the color code used by SD (makes it easier to match up when changing pickups).

If anyone is interested, I would be happy to draw up a schematic (when I have time )

do you use 500k pots, 300k or 350k pots?

I've got the APHn/C5b combo right now with 500k pots... thinking it might be a bit too bright and maybe the A2 mag might be better suited for the V.

I haven't tried the C5... However, I wasn't happy with a Scream'n Demon (alnico 5 = overly bright / shrill) so I went the other way with the CC.

I did try a 59 neck that was nice, but the APH is a better match with the CC.

The pots are 500k. .047uF tone caps and .001uF treble bleed caps. (plus two 47k resistors to prevent loading)
Concentric pots

I think I might place the A2 mag in my pup in a couple of weeks. I just set up the guitar a couple of days ago so I am gonna get in the jam space with the band and see what happens!
