Another thread got me thinking… we all know that offers custom shop pickups. However, when you view the custom shop page you get very little information regarding the offerings.
So, I thought I’d be a good idea to have you guys who have ordered from the custom shop share your experiences. What pickup/pickup set did you get? What are the specs? How would you go about placing it on the Tone Chart? What’s your personal review?
Such information would be very helpful to those of use looking for alternatives outside of ’s standard production line.
everything ive gotten from the custom shop has been killer. i think my first was an overwound ssl1 style single coil many years ago for the neck position of a tele, since then ive had a few including a 10k antiquity, 17k c5 with allen poles, a 9.4k antiquity
all are very cool pups that i use on a fairly regular basis. every experience ive had with them has been great
I originally bought an S-Deco5 wound ~10.5k. The original quote was 6 weeks but it came in 2-3 weeks. I found that the A5 was a little bright and sent it back for a switch to an A2. That took a couple of weeks round trip.
Overall its a cool pickup and the CS handled everything top shelf. No complaints there at all.
That said the difference between it and a 59 or PG weren't anywhere near as pronounced as I was expecting. I was hoping for something more distinctive from the production fare. In retrospect ordering something that similar in spec was probably a poor choice when I wanted 'distinctive' but I felt that it would be the best choice for that guitar. I still have it in that guitar so I guess I would have to say it served its purpose but I think there is a real chance I may drop a CC in there over the holiday.

I've never owned a CS pup, but I like the idea of a quot;Custom Shop Tone Chartquot;.
Artie
1000 on a custom shop tone chart.
as far as dealing with the custom shop i have one word for you quot;CLASSquot; , MJ rules !!!!!!! i love my EL DIABLO it is awesome . i will be getting another custom shop pickup after the new year
More details on the CS offerings is probably a pretty good idea. But I have to admit, the idea of a list of models available from a 'Custom Shop' strikes me as a little more than ironic.
