Great little pedal! I didn't really need it since I already have a TS-9 but for the price I couldn't go wrong. It's fun to A/B them a little or have them on at the same time (=HUGE sound).
I expected this one to sound relatively the same but there is definately some difference. I like the gritty character a lot. It's great for a lead boost!
Anyone else using this little box too?
I wonder why there is so little talk about this one?
How would it compare with the other Boss overdrives? (od-1, od-3)
I like the SD-1..... Sounds better modded though
How much did you buy it for????

35 Euro, new it costs around 60 so that's a good price.
I've read that the SD-1 is supposed to have the same op-amp as the ts-808?
Modding is definately an option! I do like to get a little more familiar with the pedal first though. Do you have a modded one?
I have a modded SD-1 from Stratdeluxer. The difference is astounding. It's much smoother, more clarity, articulation. It's not a bad pedal at all stock, but John makes it out of this world. Like you said, great for lead boosts. I love mine.

Yeah, what Jeff said. It's a great sounding pedal in front of the right amp. StratDeluxer does real nice work, as well.
The SD-1 has asymmetrical clipping, while the TS-808 and all other Tubescreamers have symmetrical clipping, so you'll hear a difference when you use them, even if they have the same IC. Gotta love both, though.
I picked up a SD-1 about 9 months ago expecting to turn it aorund for some profit and I ended up falling in love with the sound. I bought another one cheap and tried to do an online mod to TS-808 specs and somehow mangled it. It'll probably get sent off to StratDeluxer for a mod/repair.
For the record I own the SD-1, a Spina-modded TS9DX, a Bad Monkey and a stock TS-9 Reissue. My ears may be getting bigger than my brain but they all sound like VERY different pedals to me.
The SD-1 also has a differently voiced tone stack,an extra silicon diode, and has more gain and more hair on notes..The SD-1 is tighter and crunchier in it's presence and not as smooth as the TS series...The chip being used in the Taiwan versions is a JRC4558DD or another variation of a 4558 chip...The TS808 used either the Malaysion RC4558 chip or the JRC4558D...
I use the TI RC4558P chip in my SD-1 mods as I think it sounds best..
