Yeah, the Schecter is proably more guitar for the money than the Carvin, but i really want a guitar that's made to my specs, rather not to have a mass produced guitar similar to everyone elses
Also, with Carvin i could get:
-Stainless steel frets
-My favourite color
-A real fingerboard instead of just rosewood (boooring )
And much more, you see?
Thanks,
-Erlend
I should be getting my carvin 7 string real soon, I'll let ya know what i think of it .
Pretty similar in overall quality, but the most important thing is to buy the top of those lines, not the bottom or middle. Then, toss the pickups in the ole junk drawer and install the Duncans that suit the guitar and style to a T. Carvin pickups are sh1t, and Schecter usually uses Duncan designed. They also use crappy pots. Change the electronics and pickups on a Carvin or Schecter, and you're fine. That's where they cut the corners.
Well the Classic do have a JB and a 59, so no need there to change the pickups.

All the Carvins I've ever tried (and I live about 2 miles from the store) have been really solid instruments. They play well, and the attention to detail seems to be very high.

Have not played any Schecters, though.
I'm very happy with all my Carvins.
They are very well made.
I've used them to practice, record, and gig
for years now.
They've never let me down.
Darn solid guitars.
Carvin uses much nicer woods than you get on Schecters.
Example.
Carvin uses Honduran mahogany.
Schecter uses Philipine mahogany.
Carvin figured tops are real 20mm thick tops.
Schecters are figured veneers over the carved mahogany body.
The only Schecter right now that compares to a Carvin is the new Exotic C1.
As you mentioned, with the Carvin you have many options to make the guitar to your preference.
Only thing I suggest is if you do not plan on getting one of Fishman piezo bridges,
For-go the actives electronics and just get the passives.
I rarely fiddle with my DC400's actives. Just the volume knob.
I much prefer the tone and simplicity of my Dc127 and DC727 passives.
My DC200 is passive as well. It's a LP type layout. Two volume, two tone.
Carvin's are pretty well made. I've never heard anything bad about them. My younger brother has an old all maple, double cutaway carvin that plays and sounds pretty nice.
Carvin's are far superior. I love mine even though I have to send it back for a rebuild because the tech was a retard. That's no fault of Carvin's and the contruction of the guitar is flawless. I just hope that guy gets fired.
Anyway, GJ and Zerb hit it on the head. Carvin pickups suck. Aside from that they are just as good or better than any other high end american guitar out there. Great prices too. I would recommend you save up a little more and get a Carvin over a Schecter. But then again Schecters are very good guitars for the money. It's really up to you. I like Schecters because I'm not afraid to bang them up a little bit.
Try the H22 in the bridge. I have one in my DC127 and love it! I hated the c22 though. It's well worth the try anyway. I love my Carvin. X, who was the tech who FD' your axe up?
Hey guys, thanks alot! According to your advice, i think i'll save up some cash and get myself a Carvin .
I don't care about the stockers though, if i buy a such expensive guitar, then i'll order some duncans at the same time. I think i'll have a S-S-H config on mine if i get it, i need some single coils!
Here's three nice P.U ideas i have:
Neck: Middle: Brigde:
Vintage Rails - Vintage Rails - JB (for a dark sounding guitar)
A2Psc - A2Psc - Custom Custom (for a brigther sounding guitar)
Hot rails- JbJr Invader\Distortion (if i all off a sudden need a metal tone)

I really don't know. all I know is the guitar came pretty much perfect except for some reason he decided to carve out the G string saddle on the bridge way down. And he obviously took out the nut after it was installed once and put another in, chipping the paint in clear coat in that area. He obviously had no idea what he was doing. My other gripe was there was a small dark smudge about the size of a fingerprint under the clear coat over the pearl white. I didn't like that either.
I've had no problems with the Carvin pickups.
I have the M22n/M22sd combo in my 6's.
C26s in my 7.
And the H22n/C22b in my Diodati 59Q.
Never felt a need to swap them out.
And I like the improved tone, dynamics, sustain, and fullness the
H22n/C22b gave my Diodati over the stock Gotohs that were in it.
I actually prefer the tone of my Diodati now over my Fernandes Ravelle
with the Duncan Jazz/JB.
Could be a number of reasons why the Diodati sounds better than the Ravelle.
Not necessarly the pickups.
And I still do like the tone of the Ravelle. If anything it sounds as good as it does do to the Duncans.

I have a SC90 that I absolutely love! Build is fantastic, the sustain is endless (even with a Floyd) and its purple flame maple is gorgeous. The stock pickups werent bad either. I changed to a combo that I always wanted tho. Pearly gates neck and Blues Saraceno TB in the bridge. I do really like Carvin AP11 single coils and I hear their new C22B pickup is supposed to sound pretty nice. Carvins really are nice and in my opinion, very underrated. I think people expect them to sound like something else.

Does it sound like a LP.
Does it sound like a Strat.
Does it sound like a PRS.
Does it feel like a Jackson.
List goes on.
People forget to look at them as thier own identity.
Thier always looking at them as an alternative.PRS is too expensive so I'll get a CT.
MIA strat is too this or that, I'll get a Bolt.
A Sc90 looks a bit like a LP shape, must sound like one. I'll get that.
Then they get pissed when they discover it has it's own voice and sounds
nothing like the guitar they were expecting it to.

lol i think you just contradicted yourself there...far superior yet it needs to be rebuilt since it was a lemon lol. granted it is rare to see a bad carvin, i've only heard of a few. but i wouldn't say it's a far superior guitar...the schecters have a bunch going for them with a tonepros bridge and duncans stock on the better models. i don't disagree with you 100%, carvins are great guitars and it's a HUGE plus that you can pick colors materials etc etc but the pickups and electronics are the downfall to them. the simple answer here is, either guitar he gets will be a good choice of the two, as long as it gets some good electronics and duncans!! oh and i'm not bias toward schecter, yeah i own one, but you know i also have an itch for a carvin CT so i won't talk down about them, i just don't think (from the ones i have played) it's so much of a better guitar to go as far as saying far superior.

Yeah and I just bought another Schecter too, go figure. No what I meant was there are no issues with the build of the guitar. The guy who did the final setup boogered things up and decided to send it out that way.
