Ok guys...I used to use a compressor years ago now I need one and wouldn't you know...I sold mine a long time ago!

I used to use an MXR Dyna Comp...now I have 2 questions.
-Are the reissue Dyna Comp's as good as the originals?

-Is there something better out there?

I did like the Dyna Comp, but keep in mind I was very young and pretty dumb about gear at the time, so help me out a little.

You should know that I plan to use it with my Fender guitars simply for more sustain...

thanks guys!

mmmm... i have only used the boss compressor/sustainer... think it is a good pedal for the price....dunno if its pro quality cause i haven´t got another one to compare with... but i think you´ll be happy with the boss one...

I've got two compressors. The Marshall Ed the Compressor (love that pun) and the MXR Super Comp. I'm not sure if the Super Comp is the is the exact pedal you refer to, it certainly is an up-dated version of the dyna comp though. Everything is the same except the added bonus of an attack knob. Having never actually used a Dyna Comp, I'm unable to offer a comparison of any value. I can however vouch for the sheer quality of the pedal. My first comp was the marshall and the reason I bought a new one was that I found the Marshall to be far too UNsutble (is that even a word?)

I have found that the super comp really excels on clean settings, warm strumming etc. Though I think I probably just haven't managed to find a decent setting for sustained solo's and the like, I'm sure they're in there. I also think the Super Comp imposes a slight bass cut as well. Again, this could well just be down to my reletive inexperience with the pedal.

Most people seem to consider the Carl Martin to be the industry standard now though. I haven't ever had a go with this but a lot of folks who know a lot more than me say this really is the serious option for compressors.

On a final note, I know that Dave Gilmour has always used the Boss Compressor. Not sure if he has them modded or anything like that though. Still, can't really argue with that sort of endorsement. Gilmour owns tone.

David had 3 Dyna Comps on his pedal board for many, many years. Are you sure? I've read in loads of places that he always uses the Boss. I could well be wrong though. Sorry if I sounded like I was preaching or anything.

There's a lot of good stuff out there...try for some good stuff. Keeley's comps get raves as well.

I have a Janglebox but it's pretty pricey. It does exactly what I want a compressor to do so it works for me.
