I know a question like this is guaranteed to receive some flack, but...here goes: Is anybody familiar with the mainstream pop-metal tone circa 1981-82? Specifically, the KISS quot;Creatures of The Nightquot; rhythm and lead tone(s)? I know on that particular album they had several different lead players, but all of them had a very hollow, mid-rangey tone which I love. Even if you listen to other lead players from that era (especially on pop songs) there is a similar tone. Seems that in the entire two year span (with the exception of EVH, who has always been so unique anyway), there was a certain quot;soundquot; engineered by most studios. Was most of it just the result of stock Marshalls through post-effects signal processing and EQ? Any input would be truly appreciated. The only device to ever come close to reproducing this type of tone, in my experience anyway, is the Digitech RP-1 factory patch #77, entitled, quot;Rippin' Soloquot;.
