Another Gibson QC story, who the hell do htey have doing this work? Fedex dropped off my dream guitar, a gibson SG standard in classic white, and in the 5 minutes i've looked it over i can tell i'm going to send it back. I can't believe how sh!tty the binding is. At the 8th fret the binding is chipped off almost 1/2 the width of the fret showing the fret end, the same thing at the 9th fret but not quite as bad. Just over all the binding is poorly done. i'm really disappointed. I don't know if I should have another 1 sent to me or just get a refund.... man this pisses me off.
that sucks. is that a DIY pedal i see in ur avatar? what is it?
Get your money back man. I don't think I'll ever buy a new Gibson. It just isn't worth it.
it's sad but the only way to buy a Gibson today is used with lots of actual pics or in person. they CAN NOT in any way be trusted sight unseen from large chains. 2 out of 10 will be good.

i just talked to music123 and i am going to send it back and try 1 more... if it is ****ty than i will get a refund
man that's GOT TO BE soooo disappointing...i don't know what to say man...is there anyway you can go get one in person or is it a special that's only sold at the place you bought it?!
Gibson has been especially shotty with it's binding the last bunch of years. I had an SG Classic (from '01) a few months ago, the binding looked like it had been chiseled out with a screwdriver...by a five year old. My Standard is MUCH better.
What a shame. I know how that is. Try it one more time, if it's crappy, get a refund. I never give a guitar more than two chances anymore. I know how much you were looking forward to it. It's always the disappointment that's the worst part.
hey Ey74, is that from BuildYourOwnClone? i did a fuzz from them too
opps, kinda off topic. back to the topic, maybe you would like to try other brands of guitars?
The key is to NOT buy from Musician's Friend. There are places that will give you a good guitar at a better price. Check out Centre City Music, get ahold of Saul and he'll cut you a deal on a quality Gibson (something you won't have to return).

Another sad Gibson testimonial...
I LOVE my Les Paul 59 Historic...but it was handpicked from about twenty that came in at Wildwood Music. All of them were pretty nice though.
But the poor quality of alot of Gibson's more quot;assembly linequot; type guitars is what got me interested in Hamers.
My advice? GET A HAMER!
Never seen a bad or sloppy Hamer. Easily the best deal in an American made professional guitar...especially used.

Which models should someone be looking out for? What years? and is there anything somebody should know when Hamer shopping?

They do vary. My '92 Hamer Sunburst (now called a Studio Custom I think ) had kind of a wide flat neck...not my favorite Hamer neck. I like the neck on my '02 Hamer Monoco Super Pro and the neck's Hamer is producing these days the best. For a solid body, I like the Studio Archtop series: kind of a Les Paul double cutaway with mahogany body and carved maple cap. The Artists are great guitars and are hollow on the bass side and solid on the treble side: very very VERY COOL! The Korina Artists are especially nice. The thing with Hamers is: buy a used one. There's always great deals on Ebay and they're one of the few guitars you can buy without trying first and be pretty certain you're going to get a great guitar. The more recent ones have a better finish and have my favorite necks. Hamer had a little trouble with what came to be called quot;Hameritisquot;: kind of a whitening of the finish deep in the grain of the mahognay and in the neck joint. Lew

My platinum pro was from musicans friend. $199 super blowout discontiuned model thing.
Super guitar, nothing wrong with it anywhere excet the pickup volume controls were backwards :\. But since I've put in emg's its fine.I even had a luthier check it over, he asked how much I payed because they sell that same guitar for $700, when i told him $200 he about flipped his noddle, and this was after he just got done putting the EMG's in.
