ok i just realized that i didn't know something...go figure lol...

anyway, i tend to use an odd combo (to some) of a 500K volume pot with a 250K tone pot in all my strats and tele's...why...b/c the first time i changed pickups in a strat to strat size duncan hums the local shop only had one 500K pot in stock lol. but i have stuck with this since and like the sound. now my question is with the volume on 10 and the tone on 10 what type of change would i hear (if any) if i used a 500K tone? on a similar subject with volume on 10 and tone on 10 will a cap change from a .02 to a .047 make any change? i'm mostly concerned with how these things change a guitars sound with both volume and tone on 10 as mentioned.

thanks.

The tone control question is easier to answer if we take it backwards from what you said. Lets say you have a 500k tone, and change it to a 250k. Thats exactly the same thing as setting your 500k on quot;5quot;. Exactly!
So . . . you simply have a 500k tone control, thats preset on quot;5quot;. Put in a 500k, and you can turn it back up to quot;10quot; again.

Changing the cap to .047 will drop the frequency range down, considerably, that the tone control will affect. Instead of just handling the very high-end, it's roll-off will start to dip closer to the upper-midrange.

thanks artie...i should just PM'd you as usual lol (i actually have another wiring question for you i'll PM you and pester you about hehe)

well now i know the key to why my two telecasters sound like thick mosters (yet they still have a nice edge to the highs)...those 250K pots will never come out now hehehe!!

Actually, I prefer that folks, in general, post rather than PM. That way, your question may answer anothers, and I can get to it when I feel like it.

I put 250's in my Patriot with the DD/DC for that same reason. It just takes off an quot;edgequot; thats caused by some aspect of that guitar. Putting in the 250's was easier than figuring out why the guitar was so bright.
