some of you guys may remember my post a couple of weeks ago where I mentioned that after using my PGs in my main Les-Paul for a year I heard a live recording of the band and was concerned my tone was too thinand bright.
Well, I gotta say like a fool (and I've been playing for 25yrs!) I hadn't tried playing with the tone controls on my Marshall. I've always had them set at 12 o'clock, which really suits my other Paul. DOH!!!!!!
I've tamed the treble by knocking back the presence and boosting the bass and middle - Wow! We rehearsed last night and my pups did everythingI wanted from them, I couldn't fault my tone (playing is another matter!)
I love Cream tones, I love Kossoff and Billy Gibbons but I also love Warren Haynes , Audley Freed, Gary Moore and even higher gain guys too like John Sykes lead tone. My tone now covers this whole spectrum as I turn the volume control on the guitar and hence increase the gain. Thick, sweet, warm and singing.
If there are any guys out there with similar tastes, you gotta check the Pearlys out!
Hope I haven't bored you too much with this post - just wanted to share my findings.
We often forget that after a pick-up change, we need to find new settings for our amps... IMO, each pick-up/guitar/amp has its sweetspot... the PG set I have in my ec-1000 sure sounds beautiful and versatile... especially when you play a little with the tone control on the guitar... great pick-ups for sure!
Glad you like yours!
Cool! Glad you got it sorted.
The PGs are the only Duncan PAF-style pickups I haven't tried. I love all the others, so..... hmmmmm
i just bought a neck PG and love it? what do ya'll think should i get the matching bridge...i really like the 'dirty south' and am looking for sweet singing sustain out of my rebuilt LP copy. what do u think?
This post is so timely. I just logged on to make a similar comment about my new JD/APS-1 combo. I loved it, then didn't, now do again, because of adjusting my set up to match the A2's.
Nice to hear that you got it dialed in.

Feels great to finally get the tone happenin', don't it? I think what you're doing is similar to how Billy Gibbons gets his tone out of the PGs. If you turn down the treble on the amp and vary your pick attack, you can get all kinds of different shades of grind.
