Has anyone made a comparison among Hi-output passive SD's (Invader, Distortion, Dimebucker) and EMG active humbuckers (EMG 81 etc.)? Is the output at the same level or is there a great difference in power?

I just started to touch on this in this thread. Unfortunately, I didn't get the idea 'til after I sold several of my pups to finance new toys.

There's only a couple listed there, but I hope to add several more tomorrow.
(I work in a Navy calibration lab.)

If someone wants me to measure a DiMarzio or EMG . . . they'll have to send it to me.

(I'll send it back!)

I do not have the knowledge on how to measure pickup's output but i trust my ears and my ears say that between the duncan high output pickups i own(or used to own)(JB, Distortion, C5, CC) and the emg81/85.......emg's are the winner(outputwise).

well i'll say this most high output passives are around 450-500 mv and EMG 81's, 85's are 1v RMS and can peak around 3v.

i have no idea how to really measure it.But i can compare my dimebucker with my emgs and the EMGs definitely are more powerful and hotter. i guess their output is a good bit higher than that of my dime.
