For a 1x12 extension cab for my 1x12 Marshall JTM30 combo

EDIT: It'll be a closed back by the way. Sorry marvar

You can't go wrong with the G12H30, very musical sounding,but I like the Greenback too. Don't care for the V30, except in a closed back cab.

In an open back cab I like the G12H30 best...more bass and a fuller tone. Like Marvar, I like the V30 (and also the Greenback) best in a sealed cab...the bigger the better. A set of four Greenbacks or Vintage 30's in a 4 x 12 Marshall cab produces an astonishingly good rock n roll tone. But in an open back cab I think the Greenback lacks bass. I like the V 30 alot though...even in an open back cab. One of my favorite speakers in a Deluxe Reverb, although the G12H30 has a deeper fuller tone in a DR and I prefer the G12H30. lew

What's a DR?

DR= Deluxe Reverb (Fender)

P.S. I use a G12H30 and a Greenback in my Marshall open back combo, good combination for me, great mix of tone and I can mic whichever speaker is needed for the situation. I also have a couple of V30's in a closed back cab for the outdoor, or big stage situations, and the impedance is matched, so I can use any or all combinations.

Thanks marvar. I've got some more info. As I said this will be in a closed back cab and will be used with the Heritage G12H (I think) in the combo which is open backed.

I don't like any of those speakers in closed back cabs. I love the G12H30 in open back though.

Hey...the G12H30 in my DRRI absolutely rules. You can't go wrong with it. It is my understanding that a great counterpart w/ it is a V30. So it also matters about your already existing speaker setup

So.. what would you put in a closed back?

Anybody got anything else to say about this? I'm think V30 and Greenback are top of the list.

Since this thread is already open , what would be a better speaker choice for a partial open back combo in the 15-20 watt range , the G12H30 or G12M. For hard rock/classic rock and some blues. Heavy bass response is not a big concern for me.

Well, in my 20 watt class A open back amp the G12H30 sounds better IMO, I've tried them all, and still, the H30 sounds more musical- even my housemate, who has no interest in guitar stuff and has no ear to speak of, thought it sounded best.
