close

Hey guys, anyone have a good bet for a Duncan p'up that would be close and maybe better than the BB Pros found in the new LP Standards?

I have tried a few different pickups and keep coming back to the BB Pros witrh the stock electronics. But, I'd be willing to try something if someone knew of a pickup with similar characteristcs but maybe a little smoother and maybe a little hotter or tighter.

Thanks!

Stock, I'd say 59's would be closest to BB Pro's, except for the fact that the 59 has symmetrical windings and the BB Pro's don't.

Perhaps a Pearly Gates with an alnico V magnet (Pearly Gates Plus)?

Antiquities reign over all in a Les Paul

I'm with Benji on this one, and if you could get a A5 PG that would get you there.

Luke

Thanks, so I am looking at Antiquities, a PG Plus - this has an Alnico V?, and a 59.
Will the 59 be fatter than the C-5? I had the C-5 in my LP and didn't find it fatenough. I would love to know which of these pickups is that fattest and warmest.

Thanks again!

If you want fat you don't want vintage. The C5 is fatter than any of these vintage models. If you need that much bass from your pup you need to revisit your amplification choice.

I disagree. The C-5 is one of the most mid scooped pickups SD makes theres nothing fat about that pickup. A 59 will sound fatter then a C-5 because of the midrange content it has though it is still slightly scooped in correspondance with the p.a.f sound.

I agree - a 59 will sound fatter than a C-5 and my BB Pro in my Gibson sounds fatter than the C-5. My current favorite is still the BBQ because it has the tight and fat bass, thick, smooth mids, and ultra warm and smooth highs. One of the finest pickups on the planet.

Usually the higher the output, the less fat due to compression, right?

I have a '59 bridge and a C5 in my Les Paul Standards as well as a few other C5's in different style guitars. The C5 is way thicker than the '59. I have tried various Duncans in these same guitars ( CC, Screamin Demon, Custom, Pearly Gates). For me, the C5 just works (and that 's with any of my amps with the mids set between 8 o'clock and 12 o'clock). It's not so much that the C5 is scooped, it's the fact that the bottom is huge and the highs have that Alnico V bite. Being heard in a band situation has not been a problem either. I like the '59 also but the C5 has more nads.

The more I think about it, I may leave the Rio Grande BBQ/Texas in my Dean Evo Premium, go for the PRS Dragon IIs for my McCarty and go for a nickel covered C-5/59 for my LP Standard keeping the stock pots/caps! I found the C-5 too bright in my LP with 500k pots.
