I pretty sure now I'm going to les paul guitar now instead of a pgm. My strat should good enough for my shredding needs, cause Yngwie Malmsteen can uses one to shred. Now I need to decide if I'm going a double cut or single cut. I'm going to guitar center to try some out to see which one's shape I would like better and if I actually like the sound of p90s. Right now I'm planning to get either a tv yellow or goldtop les paul. I'm looking at getting a Tokai MIJ if I decide to go single cut.

Which les pauls w/p90s would you guys recommend for me to try so I can see if I can actually deal with the typical weight and is good quality wise? I'm guessing a dsl would be a close match to my jcm900 to use as the test amp.

The LP Jrs will sound a bit different than the goldtops, as the GT have maple caps on the bodies. The bridges can be different, too; depending on the particular model some will have the wraparound one. I don't know if you were considering the Juniors or not.

The Hamer Special is a great double cut and can be had for around $500. You might have difficulty finding Tokai with P-90 but they are around if you look hard enough and get lucky. IMHO the Hamer is a good place to start, or see if you can find an older Gibson LP SPecial Reissue.

Good luck!

If you are not stuck on the LP thing, a PRS SE soapbar is a GREAT bang for the buck!!!! I have one and I will not ever part with it!!!! I have installed Duncan P-90's in it but, the factory P-90's are by far the best ones I have ever had in that Guitar!!!! Great bang for the buck!!!

BTW, I play through a 900 also!!!!

What he said!!!

How about a Fender Stratosonic? I haven't played one but they look pretty cool.

It looks pretty good, but I think I might want to get a lp shape just because it's a different shape from my strat. I'm gassing for a goldtop now too cause they look to awesome.

PRS's with P 90's are so cool! Love them! Once i get done with my car payments i am really thinking of blowing some bucks on a PRS..... but that being said some of the gibson LP Jr's are a great price these days...

I'm partial to the double cut Special body shape:But the regular body style is pretty cool:
Well I went to guitar center today and the only p90 guitar they had there was a epiphone goldtop. It gave a pretty good estimate of the p90 sound. I thought it had the single coil clarity with humbucker output. After that I tried a heavier epiphone custom, the weight was okay for me standing up. I know that custom still not all mahogony, but if I can deal with that weight do you think I would be okay with a all mahogony les paul. I thing I noticed when I started with tsl was that they were really thin sounding when played a lower volumes, my slx sound much thicker with gain. I can see how you guys hate the newer marshalls.

I really like the p90 sound and the single cut felt nice, but I still need to try a double cut to see if I would like that shape better. What I liked was the scale on les pauls, it felt much easier go around the fret board. Do you guys know what difference the scale does for distance between frets or any thing lengthwise?

Love it when TGB chimes in with his Gibbys and Marshalls...you've got hella-good taste man!

i have a '56 ri thats wonderful

not what i thought i was looking for but it was too good to pass up.

my suggestion is to track down a used '56 ri. you want the seperate tail piece and bridge over the bridges on the '52 or '54. i know its alot of money but it will hold its value better than most other things and the time it takes to save will let you decide what you really want and find a nice one. its also a non weight relieved (1 piece?) body with a long neck tenon that ya get with the custom shop stuff. stock pups sound fine (not that i can let them stay stock for long, its against my religion)

TGB, what kind of a bridge is on the LP jr?

There's no way around it, I love this thing!
****ing get a regular LP and just stick Phatcats, if u ever find that u dont want P90's u can change to humbuckers

I looking to spend less money, so I'm going to stay stock, anyways I got my strat to cover the humbucker tone.

That's the Schaller 455 without the fine tuning thingy.

If you have a guitar with a wraparound bridge, and it intonates, I'd highly recommend sticking with that. If you've got a quot;newerquot; (ie. zinc alloy) tailpiece, get an aluminum one- but stick with a wraparound bar. If your guitar doesn't intonate with a standard wraparound, I like the Schaller better than the Badass- purely personal preference- and it's easier to load strings.

If you don't go for something like a 56RI check out a used singlecut LP Special. Not that the doublecuts aren't cool but the bass response is different. A lot of the recent era versions have P-100 pickups not P-90's but SD's P-90 are so great it is worth the swap anyday. Pricing should be pretty good as there isn't a crazy market for them.

As examples, none are mine don't know the guys etc.....

Those prices are pretty nice, but I'm so stuck mentally mostly on the goldtop or maybe the tv yellow color because I already have a red guitar. What other lp shape MIJ guitars do guys think are up gibson quality but under $1000? In know edwards and tokai are up there. Oh if guys know of any websites that I can purchase I would appreciate that too. I'm thinking probably a new guitar.
