So I need a cab. I'm going to try and make a 2/12 cab. Now my idea as of right now it to copy a Mesa Boogie Rectifier Series 2/12 with a closed back. What I am guessing I can do it, with the pictures of every angle of this cab I have, is to copy the measurements exactly and the wood exactly and come out with somewhat of a similar sound although I am not expecting it to sound the same. What woods should I take into consideration for this project forumites? What wood does Mesa use and what's the price of this wood? All help and comments are very welcome!

Why don't you just buy a Avatar 2x12 cab for about $300.

^ Good Point.

However, if you are still wanting to build a cab, I recommend 3/4quot; birch plywood. IMO, it's the best sounding wood for building cabs and it's tough stuff (it's also typically stain grade if you feel like doing something other than tolex). I don't know if that is what Mesa uses, but the birch is what you want. A 48quot;x96quot; sheet will run about $50 US.

MDF is also acceptable, and cheaper. It still resonates better than low grade plywoods and particle boards. Trouble with MDF is it's real easy to split the ends and it can be tough to get screws to hold in the ends, making construction a little more tedious.

mesa uses 3/4 inch birch ply. if i were making the cab it would be a 1x12 3/4 back cab with the mesa celestion custom 90 in it. those sound so good in either clean or distortion. Kinda like taking the best of both worlds (open and closed back) and combining them.
