Anyone have experience with the differences between the ST and CL models? I'm looking at the 50 watt heads but haven't ruled out the combos. From what I've read the CL has an extra gain stage while the ST delivers better cleans. Have I got this right? I'm looking for, well, everything; good cleans, bluesy OD, to quot;scare the kiddiesquot; hi gain.

Also should I definately get one with the graphic EQ or is it necessary?

I'm also intrigued by the 30 watt combo. Anyone played through one? I read through the threads but didn't see much on the ST models. Thanks all!

I have played most VHT but not the ST stuff. I own a 100CL and think it is an excellent rock guitar amplifier. The clean channel isn't jaw dropping but the red channel is.... I think it rivals anything out there. I like it better than the Uberchall. I don't have the EQ and have never desired it. Honestly, my 100CL has more than enough knobs for twisting and tweaking. The EQ would probably complicate things too much for me. In general, I think VHT is really outstanding stuff.

Thanks RGN, I've wanted one since the big head shootout in Guitar Player about ten years ago. I'll probably go with the CL or the ultra as it's really about the gain for this purchase. Wish there were more dealers, the nearest is about 500 miles from me. Maybe it's time for a road trip.

One thing I've heard that you may not like about them is that they are incredibly unforgiving; one review on the JCF went so far as to say it was like it was almost like having a clean channel behind the distortion.

a VHT Pitbull is really the only High Gain amp I really want...

Man, what I'd give to sit down with the pitbull, a few different boogies, a nice modded marshall etc. and hear them all in the same room through the same cab.

If that's true I want one! The problems I've had with high gain amps over the years is that they do not respond well to everything you play when heavilly overdriven. I always find myself spending more time on clean channels because they respond soooo much better

Yea, I can see why someone would say that... I don't find it is as unforgiving as a Diezel VH-4 through a cab with Vintage 30s. That rig is totally and completely unforgiving- one note picked wrong and it sticks out like crazy.
