Dirt?
Try picking at it.
I promise you, you'll get more responses to this type of question if you ask them in The Guitar Shop.
It's just oxidation I think. I've got that on some frets too.
can u take it off or do you have it forever like luggage
I'm sure some #0000 steel wool will take it off. Use that any time you want to get something off your fretboard or the frets. I never cared personally.

There u go
is it a maple fretboard? if so that's common with maple fretboards I'm told.
when my Fender AM Strat arrived in the guitar shop, they phoned me up and said there was some green discolouration on the back of the neck, and that they quot;personally wouldn't accept thatquot;. however, when I got down there to see the guitar it was just a very slight green tint, and after playing a few days it had totally disappeared...
great to know and yea it is a maple fretboard, i took everyones advice and cleaned the crap out of it and yea it was dirt (green dirt: weird) anyway thank you to everyone this is why i luv this site haha crazy questions like quot;whats this green $%#* on my guitarquot; are always answered

Errr, this is the guitar shop.
It's just a mix of oxidised nickel silver, skin oil and skin debris.
Get it off with some OOOO grade wire wool and some baby oil.
yup it has happned to my guitars too i just kidna ignore it. I can onyl see it if you look at the fret baord on the side. After a cleaned my neck i got alot of it off, but id ont know what it is.
It's mojo, leave it alone!

Be really careful with steel wool on a maple board. You don't wanna take the finish off.
More specifically, it is copper within the fret's metal alloy that causes the green. The Statue of Liberty is green, and pennies in a water fountain turn green for the same reason.
