She's a bit beat-up in spots but she's purdy, ain't she? And she sounds GREAT!

Sweet! Now I feel this odd urge to go get a black/maple Strat...

nice. sexy. any plans for her?

Wow; that looks exactly like the 1st guitar I ever got, back in 1983!
I took a belt sander to the body and took off 1/2 the paint, put a HB in the bridge, and otherwise totally ruined it ...

I love the color of the maple and the pickguard. Sadly, I don't love black guitars. Sweet Strat though!

Very nice B2D. Sweet looking Strat!

You are correct, sir! She's a 2002 Powerhouse model. There's a dummy coil under the pickguard that serves as a noise-canceller (the pickups are Tex-Mex, like the Jimmie Vaughn has) and there's a 12db active mid boost in there as well. Just enough to give it some fatness, but not too much to make it icepicky like the Claptons can be sometimes.

I was thinking of hot-rodding it with a mirror or metal guard and putting a black hotrails set in there... but it looks so nice now that I'm not sure I'd want to. I will definitely change the tuners to Schaller or Sperzel locking types and of course straplocks are mandatory. I just discovered how much my tax returns are going to be ( ) so I COULD get a custom Warmoth neck for it; I've always wanted to try a 1 5/8ths SRV-grip neck on a strat.

I'll enjoy it as it is for now though. This little thing's got some mojo in it! It's probably the best sounding MIM I've ever heard.

Nice Strat! A local store has a few of those models on sale... The Powerhouse and another model as well. I love Black strats with Maple necks! Once on a holiday i needed a cheap guitar and bought a 1994 Mexican strat black with a maple neck... I think this was the first year the Mexican Standard came out, but this was the same guitar with the Squire name on it and cheaper hardware. Fender made Squires in the Mexican Plant for 1 year 1994-95 when their overseas contract ran out and the only colour they offered was Black with Maple necks. It was cheap and fit the bill for a holiday guitar.

But anyways i changed the bridge and tuners to the same ones on the Mex Standard model when i found them used for cheap. The Squire hardware sucked and i stuck a Hotrail in it. It sounds pretty great for a cheaper guitar.. Nothing near the great sound of some of my other better quality strats but it is still great and i love to play it.

I own 3 Mex strats that i have bought over the years. The black 94 squire one above, A yellow 1996 tex/mex, and a White 1999 Mex Standard. The White one is amazing!!! I picked it up for $200 and i love it as much as my American made strats! I'm not a fan of the small frets but i live with it since it was only $200. The Yellow tex mex just sucks! I have changed pickups many many many times and it sounds awful! I have returned it back to stock and will unload it oneday.... I think i'll try and get another Godin Solidac and use the money off the yellow strat to pay about half!

WhoFan

Pretty~! That'd be awesome to play wearing a matching tuxedo

Doesn't look like a Les Paul.

I like the idea of a metal pickguard - what about a satin chrome one? That combined with black pup's and black knobs...

good score man!...i'd like to find one like it in surf or seafoam green and slap a gold pickguard on it....sounds nasty don't it!?

i like it. sounds like a killer guitar. a metal pickguard sounds like it would look nice with a set of hotrails.

Nice catch dude. I had one of these. Great guitar for the money, even better if its a post-2000 model with Alder body instead of Poplar.

The pickups arent Tex-Mex (stock), unless they were changed by previous owner.

Swap the trem for a Callaham model

That's a beauty. Play it in good health!

Yeah its from '02 and I checked the neck pocket... it's alder all right!

You know what... I think you're right these aren't Tex-Mex pickups like in the Jimmie Vaughn although they do sound eerily similar.

I plan to install a Callaham block and some Graphtech saddles, along with the tuners.

...about the tuners: Think I should go for black ones or stay with chrome?

And buy the way you guys would absolutely hate me if I told you how much i got this for... Gearjoneser would probably give me a medal, though.

ok.. how much?

Hm???
