Hihi,
Im planning to get a new amp soon. I have heard good things about the traynor YCV series and that it quot;blows away the Marshall DSL401quot;. Im a Marshall fan though and wants to have the tone of GnR and Aerosmith. So my question is : Can we really compare the two amps? Are they two different type of amps? Help me decide on whether I shld get the Marshall DSL401 or a Traynor. Thanks!
(Btw, I can't try out any Traynor since they are not available here)
Traynor 50blue. Yes, it is far better in my opinion
Why is it better?
The only Traynor I've ever heard was a small combo amp, but it was awesome. I've heard a lot of good things about the 50blue, and that it is very Marshally.

Overall better quality and better sounding. Marshall is one of those companies that sits on it's laurels rest assured that their products sell on name recognition alone. They put more money into marketing than Ramp;D and improvement of their amps. A lot of cool features in the 50blue also.
I'd say Traynor YCV50Blue also!
I remember trying different Marshall combos before buying a YCV80, and they all sounded very weak and uninspiring (I currently use a Marshall DSL half stack, it sounds nothing like the combos... and it also sounds like what you're looking for, but we're talking 2-3 times the price).
I loved my YCV80, especially the clean channel, but I was craving for a quot;Marshallierquot; distortion but there was no EL34 version at the time so I simply bought a Marshall head.
Now that the YCV50Blue is out, I see no reason to bother with a DSL combo, unless their particular tone is what you're looking for.
And I'm really hoping they will release a 2X12 version of the Blue, or an extension cab (had the 2X12 cab with my YCV80) or even a head!
1 for Traynor
I have Traynor YCV80
It sounds amazing on distortion and clean channel. I can't compare it to the Marshall - never owned one.
The best advice would be go to the shop and try them both.
After playing Traynor for 3 month I took my JStation for practice - I could not believe how terrible that device sound!!! Before the tube amp I was protecting JStation - sayingquot; quot;it is the best sounding piece of equipment everquot;.
P.S. I CAN play quite with a good distortion tone. I do not like the reverb (but it's may be me).

I've played teh DSL 401 and am dyin to try the blue
i loved the ycv40 i tried
the dsl 401 i found to sound like cheap quot;plasticquot; imitation of a marshall tone
my pod does a much more convincing job
I want an old MKII. Those amps rule.
I have a Traynor YCV40 and I am very impressed!!! I just wish a store around here would get in a blue50 to try out.
One difference is the power tubes. The DSL runs EL84's and the 50Blue runs EL34's. I think that's why the Traynor sounds more 'Marshally' than the DSL401. Also, the YCV50 comes stock with a Celestion V30. And besides, last I checked, the DSL401's were running over $1000 and you can pickup a YCV50 Blue for under $650. It's my second Traynor and they are built like a tank and very reliable.
I've been overhauling a friends Traynor YGM-3, late 60's vintage. Great amp. Trem and verb and lots of volume. Big, big sounding amp for 2xEL84's! Old school late 60's PTP stuff. They used old Hammond output transformers.
