I have an unidentified low output gibson pickup without any identification, has a output of 7k or so, it resembles a dirty finger pickup and im pretty sure it was a stock pickup between the 70s-80s. Any idea what it might be?

Any numbers stamped on the bottom? 12 Screw poles or quot;Standardquot; screws and slugs??

It´s either broken or not a Dirty Fingers, a Dirty Fingers reads at about 17-18k

It has 12 screw poles.. hmmm

12 poles could be a DF, depending on what´s stamped on the bottom... 7k is still way weak, though....

Is the DF the only gibby pup with 12 screw poles?

Yup...sounds like a goofed up Dirty Fingers.

Some people love 'em...I never understood the allure. I tossed both that came in my Explorer in the garbage. Suspect they'd be worth a pretty penny now.

Either that ... or... someone removed the slugs and replace them with screws? I still have no idea what gib pup that is but it sounds close to a SD 59'..

But if it sounds like a ´59, it´s almost certainly not a DF... Do you see one magnet or 3 looking from the side? Dirty Fingers have 3.....

I´m starting to think it´s maybe a modded 490 / 496

took a look, there's only 1 magnet.. hmm

T-top? Still sounds low for output. Modded somethin or other if only one magnet.

And the ONLY guy who ever got a good tone from a DF IMO, is John Sykes. The Gibson 500T/496R combo was put on the market to replace the DF cos people hated them so much. Zerb,

heh...alot of gear we hated in the 80's is now all the rage. And the stuff we loved back then is now less desireable.

I used to buy brand new Les Paul Standards for less than a grand. Gibson was havin a tough time up against your preferred brand and Ibanez Marshall 800 channel switchers were all the rage, and no-one wanted the standard MV heads (including myself). People didn't want old Ibanez Tubecreamers and Boss Analog delays or MXR Phase 90's. They wanted the quot;newquot; digital mulit-effects, ADA MP1's and Boss Heavy Metal pedals.

It's funny...I experimented with a ton of diff guitars/amps/effects over the years, but basically my ultimate gear has remained exactly the same...back when it wasn't very cool gear to have and now that it is: Gibson's into a pedal-goosed Marshall or Modded Marshall type amp with an analog chorus, and analog phaser.

whatever it is... it sounds good with my CC in the bridge...so i guess its staying my best bet would be a goofed up DF or a T top, it sounds too good to be a DF though
