I do repair work for some of my friends, and right now I've got about 3 different projects lined up.

One of em is an epi les paul standard that needs some hardware (bridge, tailpiece, tuners, backplates for the electronics cavities, ect)

Besides that, the finish is beat up like all hell, and he wants me to strip it and re-finish it in a simple tung oil.

Now, this is all well and good for the body of the guitar, but I was wondering if anybody's had any luck with tung oiling a mahogony neck? I've never seen it done before, so any input would be greatly appreciated. If tung oil is an impossibility I'll prolly just spray it with a satin laquer.

I believe that mahogony requires a ton of grain filler so it might be nasty after you strip it. What do I know though? It might be awesome....

For what it's worth, here is a thread I found on tung oil and mahogany:

It works fine, you just have to use more coats and /or prefer to feel the open grain...

I personally like open grain so much I that I generally play my necks raw (100% unfinished, no oil no nothing).
