My Jensen P12R 8 ohm 12' from my Blues Junior died and I was wandering if there is any reasonable way to fix it or should I just scrap it? Cosmetically it looks new, but it just doesn't work anymore when plugged in. It doesn't seem to be blown the way I have seen speakers blow in the past where you can push on the cone and get a scraping noise. If it where yours what would you do with it?
Have you tried to ohm it out to see if there is continuity? the leads are making connection? You may just have a loose wire. Have you tried another speaker? could be the output jacks, or connecting wire is bad.
speakers are a bit similar to pickups really, in construction and wire types and all..
it dosen't sound like a basic recone to me, more like a wire (i.e. inside the speaker) problem.. i cant say much more, it's never happened to me!
tom
the speaker is blown...what you have is a dropped voice coil...call Blown Away reconing in Lawrenceville...he does great work and doesn't charge anywhere near what other guys do...his number is 770-513-3252, and no it's not me and no I don't even relly know him but he has rconed a few speakers for me and is about to do a few more.

FRIGGIN' ENCYCLOPEDIA!!!!!
The scraping sound is the voice coil rubbing against the magnet.
Thanks TGTITF. I'll have to give him a call tommorrow. I am not particularly fond of the speaker, but I do like to keep all of my original parts around for all of my stuff. I am still blown away by the V series Crate!!! It rocks.
