I've tried few Celestion speakers (vintage 30, greenback, 12G7 etc) but so far my favorite is Vintage Neodymium. It sounds bright (clarity), tight and articulate with less breakup. I think it's an ideal speaker for multi-channel amp because it stays clean way better than any other speakers I used without breaking up too early when clean channel is used. When dirty channel is selected and once it starts breakup, it breaks up like no other speakers and you get this articulate dirty sound with clarify, definition and warmth.
I use it in both of my combos (Traynor YCV40 1X12 and Chubster 55 1X12). The tonal improvment is significant! Also, the best part is the weight. You wouldn't believe how LIGHT it is. So my combos are very portable, which is a BIG PLUS if you gig out.
Check them out!
Cheers

The weight relief thing has really got my attention.
Supposed to sound real good too. Maybe a bit on the bright side?
May I ask how much you how much they cost?

G12 Century Vintage

With the G12 Century Vintage, our mission was to create a loudspeaker that combined all the benefits of a Neodymium magnet structure with a voicing that evoked the classic guitar tones of the 1960s and ’70s.

The incredible magnetic properties of Neo mean that only a small amount is needed to produce the same flux as a much larger ceramic magnet structure. What’s more, the magnet of the G12 Century Vintage is a ‘pot’ type which actually sits inside the voice coil (unlike the ‘ring’ magnet of the G12 Century which surrounds the voice coil). The resulting weight of the G12 Century Vintage is just 1.66kg (3.65lb).

The Neo characteristics of fast attack, responsiveness and articulation are very much in evidence. However this specific magnet configuration, combined with a carefully selected cone material and edge treatment, gifts the G12 Century Vintage with a classic rock sound for the new millennium.

Dave at Avatar quoted me $109 plus shipping. Glad to hear some feedback on these Brisk, thanks.

Hello Brisk....I'm in 100% agreement with your findings about the Neo Celestion speakers....In my Vox AD 2x12 cab,I also find the cab to be tight, plenty of wall shaking lows, the mids are EQd perfect and the highs are nice and not too toppy or harsh...And this is with brand new speakers that i've not even broken in yet...

I find that these speakers work equally well with my clean and gainey tones and the closed back keeps the tone very punchy and tight...I Like it alot...I was doing a search about the speakers and happened upon your earlier post on the speakers..Glad I found it!

Hello mate, i just want to say that i use the Celestion Century, non vintage edition speakers in my homemade cab. They sound awesome IMO, they have a really tigth bass response, nice chimey treble and a solid midrange.

The nice thing about them, is the lower weigth (enables me to carry the thing around, instead of having to rent a forklift ), the high sensitivity, and most of all the tone!

The only problem about them is the high wattage rating, you need alot of power, if not, i find them kinda lifeless sounding.

Maybe i should have bougth the Vintage edition?

Cheers,
-Erlend

I am considering putting them in one of my Marshall cabs. Also, In the Traynor I have on the way!!!!

I want to Be like Brisk when I grow up!!! Minus the whole Christiana Augularia thing!!!!!!

John,
I am so glad that you also like those speakers. Now I can be assured that my ears aren't too bad ...

Hey thanks brother! That was really nice!

The speakers are great...Tight,punchy,notes quickly fly off the guitar neck, plenty of lows, the mids are great..The highs are great and not harsh and grating...Plenty of volume and the cab matches perfect with the Valvetronix head...Highly recommended by me and my ears!

I was afraid that I wouldn't care for the new technology speakers from Celestion, but my worries ended very quickly upon plugging in my Tele tonight and rocking out...Played for an hour straight...The Vox cab wasn't exactly cheap, but it was worth the $480 I payed for it for sure...Gosh,I'm so happy with the tone...I used Boleslaw Gers 666 DS1 I completed for him today and got the best tone I've ever heard from any of the DS1s I've ever modded through these speakers....Clear,articulate crunchy JCM 800 tone from the pedal, but the lows, mids, and highs were just really working with my Tele earlier....I Know my neighbors heard me and I Only had the Vox head on the 30/30 watt setting...It was freaking loud!

Bumped...Interesting topic about the new celestions..

Bumped so Jumpmarine can read in on this info....Great info also..

How does the Neo speaker compare to say, a VIntage 30? Also, has anyone mixed them up with normal ceramic speakers?

Are you talking about the Century or the Century Vintage?
