Hey I'm about to be in the market for a new guitar and since I've played a Strat forever and love them so much I figured I'd get another one. However, I was looking to get one of the Showmaster series, the ones without a pickguard, quilt maple top, '59 and Pearly Gates HBs. I was looking for a hardtail version but I don't think they have those out yet, I've seen a picture of one on there website but I haven't seen them at any of the dealers in my area. If anyone has any experience playing ANY of the Showmaster series from Fender please let me know how they play and how they sound. I played one about two years ago and don't have a good enough memory of it other than it was the sweetest looking strat I've seen in these parts. Anyway, any info. on them would be great.
Well, if you can't find one of those, check out the Tom Anderson Drop Tops and the Suhr's.

You could throw in Melancon for a close 3rd with this crowd-a tad cheaper but they still have a very solid, smooth feel.
An Anderson would be hot with some of those M1 pickups in it.
Come to think of it, the Gamp;L Legacy Deluxe is in the Fender price range.
Are you talking $450 Showmasters or $1800 CS Showmasters?
The only thing I can say about the inexpensive ones is that the necks feel too slim for my taste.
I think my favorite guitars of that style are the Fender Deluxe HSS w/no pickguard (alder/flame maple veneer), or like Marin said, the Gamp;L Legacy Deluxe. (basswood/flame maple veneer). I have a Gamp;L Legacy Deluxe, and it's one of my favorite guitars. I like it more than many CS Showmasters I've played.
