Fellas,

I was talking to Christian (the guy who invented fire) over the PM about this and thought that some of you could find it helpful too. So here it is.

The antiquity strats pickups (surfers included) come with very nice aged (cream) pickupguards. But finding matching knobs for me wasn't easy. Either they were too cream, or they were somewhat too mint green for those pickupguards.

So I did the coffee trick that I think I heard first from Curly. Here is a pic of it (the knobs were usual fender-white (actually that makes them a little off white - what duncan calls parchment)). The following contains what I have done:

Put half a pint hot (not boiling - it should be hot enough for the coffee to disolve) water in a pot, and pour 5-7 table spoon of coffee (french roast ) in that pot. Stir the water in that pot for the coffee to disolve. Then get your knobs and the plastic switch fully sinking in the water (by using screwdrives and such as weights). Let it wait for at least 2-3 hours. Then check it out.

BTW I really hope ant hb come with exactly matching gibson-white pickuprings, instead of black ones.

Another trick I have done to turn my PG into a double cream was to use brown shoe polish. Great results. You gotta go easy and take your time.

Doc, Im gonna give it a try tonight...tyours looks killer! Nice Strat too BTW!

Doc...

I tried the coffee trick with an aftermarket LP pickguard that I bought. Soaked it all night long....didn't even touch it. Roughed up the surface with 0000 steel wool and let it soak all night again...still nothing. Took the damn thing back.

The Fender knobs must be made of softer plastic than the Gibson Picguards? Cool trick, just didn't work for my applications. I tried tea also...no dice.

Dunno. Never done it with gibson parts.

I tried fender-white knobs with tea as well. It turns them into a very cool mint-green.
