I'm starting to find that as I become happier with my sound I'm becomming much less interested in discussing gear and much more interested in discussing music.

For the first time I can look down at my pedalboard and not think that something's missing. There's only two more pedals I'm actually GASsing for (Whammy and CE-20), and only one gear swap I'm contemplating (replace the PQ-3 with a programmable EQ of some sort).

The one thing I'm glad about is that I chose the right amp to begin with as I've had almost zero amp gas since buying it....the only other amp that's held my attention is a Boogie MkIIB, simply because it has that Boogie vibe and it covers alot of ground the Recto can't. Also, after more than a year with this amp I'm at the point where I know how to manipulate my guitar to get the sounds I want out of it; the amp is now an extension of my guitar and I really hate plugging into other amps because I loose the amp/guitar relationship mojo thing.

Anyway, it seems that my goal for the ultimate (IMO) sludge tone is near complete, and playing guitar has moved into what I could refer to as a quot;near religious experiencequot;.

I'm happy.

=)
i just need a good amp and another guitar and i'm happy
i dont like pedals much. just need a solid amp that can deliver and that's it.

but, i'm happy for ya

My sound's somewhat similar to what's on Crowbar's Sonic Excess album. I'll be buying mics and a decent mixer/digital recorder over the next few months, so I'll be able to start recording songs and clips or whatever.

For those who're interested;

Axes
Cheap Les Paul (tuned E) - EMG 60/85, EMG PA-2
Cheap Strat (tuned C#) - EMG 81 (bridge pup only)

Pedalboard
Boss OC-3
Analogman Beano
Chicago Iron Parachute Wah
Red Witch Moon Phaser
Boss DD-20 (in loop)
Boss RV-5 (in loop)

Rack
Korg DTR-1000 Tuner
Furman PL-Plus
Mesa Recto Preamp
Mesa 2:100 Power Amp

Other
THD Hotplate (x2)
Mesa Recto 4x12

I have a few things coming in the mail and/or on order;
DigiTech WH-1
Voodoo Labs PP2
Boss CE-20

Congrats, it's a great feeling. I'm completely satisfied guitar-wise (well, once the one under construction is finished). The only pedal I really gas for is a delay of some sort, but it's no biggie. I do have amp issues though.

no wonder.. with all that stuff in your rack .. NIICE!!!

In general, my interest in gear forums ebbs and flows.

There's always more stuff to learn and I must admit a certain need to dispell certain misconceptions (e.g., Class A, true bypass = better, etc.) that keep me coming back even when I'm not looking to fan the flames of GAS.

Yep, I'm happy for you too Screamingdaisy.

I'm into a similar situation (I'm actually happy with my current gear). I used to fight with every little part of my gear to get it quot;perfectquot;. Now I'm getting the Tom Morello type belief system, if I can't make my current setup sound amazing, it's all me (a scary realization). I like working to get the tone I have. It's about time I sat down and learned everything my gear can handle. When I sit down and stop talking about gear and start actually quot;usingquot; it, I find I love my tone more and more. I know my gear isn't changing, so that leaves only one more variable, me

I may be doing a completely different style of music soon (going from melodic rock/pop to progressive rock like Rush) and I'm learning to really focus on the notes I'm playing in a completely different manner. This will be a chance to really showcase what kind of skills I have accumulated over the years (and what ones I haven't )

I think there's alot of truth to that statement, though I've had some gear that definatly didn't gel with me or my technique, and other gear that I seemed to sound perfect right out of the box.

right on man

maybe i shouldn't mention how cool a baritone 7 string would be for sludge

I've thought about building one from Warmoth stuff, but I'm going to get ahold of an Ibanez 7-string first, just to see if I like it.

Is this.....goodbye?

I understand completely. I'm pretty happy with my current setup. So I spend more time (kill more time?) in the SoundRoom.

*cues Triumph--Killing Time*
Hanging out on the corner,
He's got no place to go.
She sits in an empty bedroom
Playing the radio.
Every day they're regretting
All the things never tried;
Every day they're dyin'
Just a little bit more inside.

All the lonely people,
Waiting all their lives,
They're empty and they're aching;
You can see it in their eyes.

Time is slipping away, passing us by,
You're wondering why but it's gone,
Gone forever my friend,
and it won't come again
So don't try to pretend you feel
Fine! Killing time, killing time...

You feel it's now or never,
But the words don't seem to come.
The fabric of your dreams
Starts to come undone.
You realize it's over,
Before it has begun.
You're reaching for something special
But that someone never comes.

You're on your own now,
But you're living out a lie.
This killing time is wasting you,
I can see it in your eyes.

Time is slipping away, passing us by,
You're wondering why but it's gone,
Gone forever my friend,
and it won't come again
So don't try to pretend you feel
Fine! Killing time, killing time...

The time we waste on hate,
Full of anger and jealousy.
The times we act so cruel,
All the times you turned on me.
All those lonely yesterdays
When we were killing time.
I needed you more than ever;
Couldn't you see it in my eyes?

Time was slipping away,
Passing us by, now I could cry
Cause it's gone. Gone forever my friend
And it won't come again;
It's moved on and left us behind...

Time is slipping away, passing us by,
You're wondering why but it's gone,
Gone forever my friend,
and it won't come again
So don't try to pretend you feel
Fine! Killing time, killing time...
