Yes tube amps sound sweet. I love the tone of my YCV40. But now, my band is starting to play shows all around locally, and the music scene here its all setup so amps are already there. So basically cause i wont be using my amp, i need the provided stage amp set for clean, and i need a pedal for my distortion tone. But i dont want horrible solidstate sounding crap like from a dimed boss metal zone, that wont do either. Do i want a tube based distortion pedal? I know im not going to get the natural crunch as from a tube amp in a pedal, but i need something close or something that sounds pretty good. I certainly dont want to spend alot either, preferably under 150. Is there a such device?

Oh yeah, Style is mainly classic rock: ac/dc, gnr, but there are some ska and mellow chord elements, thus why i need the clean channel alot, nothing super heavy like death metal distortion though.

There is something that does come close....

If you can get your hands on one.. Anything by Tube Works. I have their 901 and there's a 12AX7 tube in there. Awesome pedal. I always have it on with my solid state amp and it gives it a great tone. One problem is that the company had been swallowed up by Genz Benz, so its a trip to ebay for that one.

If you want a good distortion pedal.. This one sounded good off of their website. I would have bought it, but I ran out of cash buying the other pedal from this guy...

Check out Tonebone's quot;Classicquot; and quot;Hot Britishquot;. Best sounding overdrive/distoriton IMO.

But more seriously, you´ll also want to consider things like the Hamp;K Tubeman or a used Mesa V-twin..... These have the advantage of being full fledged preamps, meaning if you can find your tone with one you can essentially have that tone anywhere, because you can quot;overridequot; most preamp sections and go straight for the power amp (or go straight to console if needed)

The ToneBone stuff is sweet as well as the Marshall Guv'nor. The original black one is a little better but the silver version is still pretty cool.

Hey thanks for the plug guys . The Spina mod DS-1 can definitely get in that ballpark, pretty cool pedal. I'll also recommend maybe checking out the Visual Sound Jekyll amp; Hyde.

Crispy, I have a Traynor 40w and so does Brisk on this forum. Brisk runs a Bonzai Fireball through his Traynor and its great for classic rock and some 80's rock also. It should be sweet for AC/DC and Gamp;R stuff. It might be a little out of your price range though. I think they are around $200 or so. Other than that, I would buy the Spina modded Boss DS-1 that FretFire is selling. Great pedal!!!!!!
