I know they are different in a lot of ways but they are similar in some ways as well. I have never tried a DD but I just won on on Ebay and I may replace a PG bridge in one of my guitars with it and would like to know what I might expect. Is the DD brighter, better cleans, raspier, etc.
Hmmm, i think they are totally different!!!
It should sound better, though I prefer thr JB. I had a set of PG's, thought the neck PG was the best sounding pickup I ever heard, didn't care for the bridge at all, very strange!

Better in what way?

What did you pay for the DD? I see a lot for 70 bucks - big whoop: I can buy one from MF for that...or 60 plus shipping.
If you want a distorted sound the DD will be better. The PG bridge didn't have enough clarity that I'm used to in the JB. It sound mushy, if that makes sense, i play both clean\classic and hard punk/metal and the PG wasn't working. As soon as I bought my JB I heard the sound I was after. I've never used the DD so I can only assume it will be better then the PG. Hope this helps.
DD? duncan distortion? you asked if the DD had better clean? lol dude its pretty hard to even get a clean tone from the DD... you gotta role down the volume alot
its a very distorted pickup, great for high gain situations, but definitley not clean.... i never tried the PG so i cant compare em but im sure they are on totally different sides of the sound spectrum
P.S. yea the DD is VERY bright, one of the brightest passive pickups ive ever tried, good clarity, some say the JB is brighter but i think the JB is too staticy, i didnt like it

Again...What are you looking to get? Going from a PG to a DD is a pretty big jump in both output and tone...

yea but im talking about actual clean sound, not a slighty overdriven sound....

What kind of amp are you playing through?
Guys, I already have the PG in the bridge of most of my axes and I am very happy and used to the way they sound. They just work for me. However, I just bought a new Dean Hardtail (mahogany/maple) and I just happen to have a couple of spare pickups including 2 quot;setsquot; - an A2Pn/DDb set and an A2Pn/C5b set. I originally bought the C5 set for my Ibanez SZ (mahogany/maple) which currently has a 490R/PGb set in it. So...that leaves the A2Pn/DDb set which I am thinking of putting in the Dean to check out and since I pretty much know how the PG sounds in this style of guitar, I am trying to get a fix on how the DD might work in the bridge of the Dean by comparing it to the PG. I guess I am mainly interested in how well the DD works in a guitar with an A2P in the neck and coil-split switching. Thanks for the input.
On the other hand I could put the PG in the bridge and the A2P in the neck - that would be sweet. I just want to see how it works with a quot;hammerquot; in the bridge position, hehe. Anybody ever use the A2Pn/DDb combo?
