I've been using a Hot Rod Deluxe and getting dirt by running pedals into the clean channel. I don't care for the HRD's pre-amp distortion, and cranking it up for power amp distortion is not an option (WAY TOO LOUD). I'm tired of using an amp that I can't turn up past 3 or so, even with a drummer. Last week I tried a Blues Junior, and loved it. I've found that I prefer running an OD or Distortion pedal into a slightly dirty amp rather than into a squeaky clean amp. The BJr. cranked up sounds much nicer than the HRD on 3. I don't need my clean sound to be perfectly clean, so the BJr. will do nicely.
I bought the amp on Friday, and yesterday had the chance to run my Jeckyll amp; Hyde pedal through it, but only at low volume. I considered selling the Jamp;H because it just didn't sound quot;rightquot; through the HRD. Now, it sounds great through the BJr.; really smooth, IMO. I even love the reverb on this amp. I guess I'm a fan of single-channel master volume amps now. I actually wish that it had a few more watts, but I doubt if it would make that much of a difference. I could always put in a more efficient speaker and/or add an extension cab. I had the drummer go with me when I bought it. I sat the amp next to a drum kit and had him play...the BJr. was plenty loud, and it wasn't even all the way up.
I've been in a slump lately as far as song-writing goes. I was getting disgusted trying to find quot;myquot; sound using the HRD, and it was killing my creativity. I can tell already that this new amp will change things for the better!
I just bought one on Thursday. I also have a Barber Direct Drive overdrive pedal and together they sound GREAT! Im definately happy with my recent purchases!
Peace.

I've had my eye on the Blues Jr for years now. It looks like a very cool little tube amp that could be turned up and really honk. It is no stack sound but it is great for what it is!!! A very cool little amp. I was going to buy a Blues Jr when a smoking deal turned up on a used Peavey Classic 30 with matching 1x12 ext cab. So i bought that instead as it was dirt cheap at $475canadian or something. The ext cab was worth that.
But i do want to still pick up the Blues Jr oneday. I have seen guys use them at small low volume gigs no trouble. If you have a loud drummer that amp better be mic'd and a good monitor in your face!!!!
There is a very cool amp stand system i bought for small amps like this. I forget the name of them but they hold a small combo tilted back and have a mic boom that holds the mic in the right place. Very cool amp stands!!!!

My friends the Blues Junior is awesome. I have had the same problem where you can't get a good overdrive without being too loud with the HRD.I love the natural overdrive you get when you push this puppy. I run a Tube Screamer in front of mine and makes it sound even better. I must say that I have the coolest Blues Junior made. Mine is the BJ Relic Special Edition. It has the tweed covering and it has been reliced to look like an old 50's amp that's seen a few wars. Also mine came with a Jensen speaker and upgraded tubes. It's a little hotter than a standard BJ, but still has an amazing clean. Check it out at signature link.
