I have an Ibanez AR-250, which is a mahogany body / maple cap 2 humbucker guitar. It has a similar build and tone as a Les Paul.I like to play Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver (Slash), and other classic rock (Zep, etc.), as well as some punk (Green Day). I am going for a Slash-like sound, and I know he uses Alnico II's.

I've done the tone wizard, but wanted to get some 'live' advise. What do you recommend I get?

I'll leave the pup recommendations to others, but welcome to the forum . . . and nice axe.

my first suggestion is a pearly gates set. i used to have an ibanez artist and thats what i had in mine and i loved it. thats what made me fall in love with the pg's.
if you want something a little hotter try either a jb or cc in the bridge.

what amp do you use?

for now, I am just using a Roland Cube 30 and a Behringer v-amp for recording.

A guitar tech at Guitar Center recommended a PG / 59 combo. What do you think?

welcome, not the guy

pretty guitar !! ...

i am a little confused when you say you want a certain sound, but then add that you want more output ... remember, no pickup is going to turn a 30 watt amp into a 60 watt amp ... the pickup's output is not going to translate into more volume/loudness/air moved ... my advice is to go for tone, then get volume from the amp ... i think an AIIPn / PGb will be killer in that guitar ... jeremy's advice for the PG set is pretty spot on too ... a PG/59 would be ok, but strikes me as being a little different than what you seem to be aiming for ...

if you really feel you need more output, you could try a CC in the bridge to retain the AII magnet with more oomph ...

good luck

Thanks quot;Tone4Daysquot; - I dont expect more volume from a PUP, I just want the right tone! I am getting a consensus on the PG for the bridge. I'll look into the ALnico II for the neck.

Any more suggestions?
