Hey guys.

The thing didn't have any batteries in it, but dang! It played great! Sorta like an american strat, but low action, smooth maple board. The saddles looked pretty good too and the tremolo looked cool. Really liked the finish, and the whole thing is so light, because there are no pickups in it. I gotta hear the sounds it makes sometime, because on the playability front it was great! I also loved the tobacco burst on it - very warm and lovely. It cost 1000 Canadian.

Anyone like the Variax?

Played the first model. Thought the guitar was average, hence the upgraded models that have followed. I thought it was pretty cool, but the strat and tele sounds weren't quite there for me. Still, had the best Les Paul imitation I've ever heard from a bolt on basswood fender derivative...

I've tried them out and they sound good. I would get one for the non-guitar sounds; I think it's pretty fun hearing a banjo while playing a guitar. And I would love to get the Acoustic Variax, since it would be much easier to record with.

I used to own one...

I'm waiting for a left-handed model to come out. I think they're a great idea, especially if you want to switch from electric to acoustic mid song, or something along those lines.

Yep... I used to do it all the time...

well i own one, and let me tell you that, its quite great, the playability is nice, it took me some time to get use to it, tbe body and neck are i dont know different... well the sounds are awesome, the strat and tele seems to me more likely than the les paul models, the acoustics are great but it misses the nylon models, whats the deal...
what model did you tried out Frantic?
JJ

How would you compare 600 vs 700 in terms of playability and sound?

I own a 700 Trem version and it's great fun to have and play around with. Also it plays and feels great allthough it took some time getting used to it.
I guess the 700 and 600 should play a good bit different from each other since the 700 has a mahagony body while the 600 is basswood. The fretboard on the 700 is rosewood and it's got a wider radius than the maple board. Can't comment on the modeled sounds but from the woods and specs they should be quite different.

I have a lowly 300 and it's a reasonable guitar. Overall, I think the Variax is a cool concept that's not quite there. My biggest complaint is that some patches (esp. those with altered tunings) have quite a bit of latency.
