Does anybody know if a Charvel Model 2 neck will fit a Warmoth body?
bumparooski
I think not. A Warmoth neck is just a little less tight than a model series' neck pocket but it fits. So a warmoth body won't hold the model series' neck without a little sanding.
I remember reading somewhere that Jackson necks were WAY off from Warmoth specs. I would assume that Charvel necks are pretty close to Jackson specs (maybe identical), but you know what happens when you assume.

A model 2 has a Strat body, not a full 24 frets neck.
Warmoth builds many of their necks based of Fender specs, which are way different than Jackson/Charvel.
You many want to email them but I recall a thread where Warmoth is wanting unused Jackson necks so they can get the specs to make replacements. Perhaps the one you have may be of interest to them. They'd have to make bodies to fit them too if they were to go that route.
Charvel model series is based on a Strat. The neck pocket SHAPE is the same, the body is the same. The dimensions are different. I think the Charvel model series neck are a little wider than Fender's route, therefore won't fit a Warmoth body properly.
The older ones are, yes, and the San Dimas models are, and maybe more of them today are, but there's a period of Charvels where they were just like Jacksons.
Yeah but he's asking about a model 2 neck
But like you said, it still won't fit because of the neck being wider at the heel. It's all good.
yeah... Nothing a little sanding won't repair but obviously it's not great. I'm sorry I didn't want to come as an ass but I just didn't get why people were going on about it, Charvel model series are totally different from nowadays' Jacksons with 24 frets indeed.
And they're great, that's why I have 2 JB from Hell, you better get your 2nd already :P You should get to the JCF classified and look for a body there, or maybe even ebay.

Not wiothout widening the Warmoth pocket a bit... conversely, a charvel Model series Body will need shims on the sides of the pocket with a Warmoth neck (or show a gap)..
The dfference is 1/16quot; IIRC
I was thinking 1/32nd myself. I may be wrong though.
Let's fight.
Thanks guys.... the reason I ask, is here's the Model 2 in question...I'm looking at buying Nikromancer's mahogany Soloist body (warmoth). It's already painted black, is routed exactly like I want, and is a great deal ($70).
I'm not opposed to doing some work to get it to fit, but would it be worth it? The Model 2 is stock, so I'd rather do the modding on the body.
I wouldn't do a darn thing to that guitar, except maybe clean up the hardware. That's real nice. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.
Ya that Model 2 is a nice example.... I'd leave it stock, just clean it up a bit and oil the rusty parts on the bridge... I have left my 87 Model 1 alone as i love it the way it is.... From the picture the only difference between my Model 1 and your Model 2 is mine has a 6 screw non-locking trem. Love the neck shape and the large frets, plus the pickup has some serious low end to it.... What type of wood were in these guitars? Mine is really heavy... i like the weight...
WhoFan
I think I read that they're basswood... the M2, anyway.
Looks like all the modding that'll need done is removing 1/32quot; from each side of the neck pocket. The guitar showed up yesterday, and I've kicked around the idea of saying forget it, but I think it's worth $70 to have another body to goof around with. I'm gonna keep this one, so I can put it back if I choose.
Also, the blue is a lot darker than in the picture, so I don't dislike it as much as I thought i was going to. And I've already completely broken it down, cleared out the pointless neck shim, totally disassembled the trem and got it looking pretty good, and restrung it with *real* strings (10-52)
Plays A LOT better now!
