One of the things that came with my Warmoth order was a Tele pickguard cut for a mini hum in the neck. This meant I was finally able to install my SD Vintage Mini Humbucker in the Canadacaster (my red and white MIJ Tele Custom).
Preliminary report: what an amazing, underrated pickup! Sounds warm and bluesy at low gain, smooth and sustaining at high gain. Output and tone are right on the money. It is an ideal neck pup for a Tele IMO, and much more useful than the weak, stock Tele neck.
I have before, during, and after pics of the install that I will post when I get home.
Thanks to all who helped me decide on this pickup. Good call!
Good report! Yes, a mini-hum ( vintage wind..please! ) in the neck of tele is a glorious sound. Mr Duncand does know his way around a min hum that's for sure. Other good ones are the Dimarzio vintage, Allparts and the kent armstrong is pretty decent too. I'd lvoe to get my hands on an old early 60's Epiphone New York Mini......those things are great.
While I still lvoe the tone of a good, single coil tel eenck pup, I also dig full size and mini hums. Just depends on the gutiar and your needs. Glad to hear it worked out for you.
since the day my friend Pete said he uses a TBird pickup in the neck of his vintage tele, I've thought it makes perfect sense
I'm just liable to try it, too ... either the vintage or hot
Told ya.
