I was suggested with an old JB J pickup (not just plain JB), and since it is not in the lists of SD's pickups, I wonder if it ever existed at all, and went out of production. does anybody know about this JB J humbucker pickup? specs maybe?
Hi Itar, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!Now depending the JB J could be one of two things.
Have you seen it? I ask only b/c if you haven't it could be something else entirely.
If it is a full sized humbucker J is the initial of the person who wound it.
If you haven't seen it; could it be a single coil sized humbucker? A JBjr? possibly.
Hope that helps!
Luke
I haven't seen it yet.
I understood it is full sized humbucker.
What do you mean in quot;J is the initial of the person who wound itquot;?

As in Juarez more than likely. The intial of the last name appears on some of the older SD's. My guess is that it was wound by Maricela Juarez the Custom Shop Manager at SD. She has been working with Seymour for about 20 years. She is a very nice lady, she made us folks at User Group Day Polarity testers.
How old is it? Also if you aren't interested I am!
Luke
Yup....all of the older Duncans used to have the initial of whomever wound it.

Whatever. Sounds like it will be a typical old school JB. Should sound pretty nice after all these years.

Back off Jeff, it's MINE!!!!
Really though, an aged JB sound sound VERY sweet.

Well the guy sells it for 33$. He bought an used Charvel with this pickup so i guess it IS old. He decided to get the original Jackson pickups so he sells this JB J pickup. It has 4 conductors. Sounds like an old JB by Juarez?

I'm guessing it's trem-spaced as well since it was in a charvel.
Hard to believe he is pulling it out in favor of a Jackson pup.
What is Trem-spaced pickup?
Is the price make sense?
Is he crazy for rathering Jacksons's PUPs?
Trem spaced means the poles are slightly wider spaced, that way you get a full on low E string.
I haven't ever heard any really inspiring Jackson pups, just my 2 cents.
The price is really good, those older ones go for more than new ones sometimes.

None of my oldest Duncan's have an initial after the model name. My earliest JB is marked quot; The JB Modelquot; on an off white sticker and is single conductor with a braided shield. It is also double cream. Slightly later JB models are also marked quot; The JB Modelquot; but with four conductor leads. The earliest JB J I have is from around 02/87. Also a four conductor. It's marked quot;JB Jquot; and is embossed with the SD logo on the bottom. I'm not sure when Duncan started using the single letter suffix and embossing, but it was in the mid/late 80's.

Thanks for the welcome Luke Duke,
I've been using Duncans since I was a kid. I tend to the vintage side of stuff so my knowlege of the new stuff is very limited. You guys are a great resource.
You are more than welcome FOR the welcome my friend! This place is like the Hotel California so be careful. lt;pssst I said this place is LIKE THE HOTEL CA.....alright where's the music? did the cue boy fall asleepgt;Originally Posted by Bandmonster

I'm sure you have plenty to contribute man, teach us!

This is rather interesting. I'll post a picture of it when I'll have one.
hey, welcome to the forum...
When I first joined one of the first questions was exactly what you asked and a local guitar store was selling it for the same price as any other used pup. The guys here recommended that I run tot he store and buy it, which I did and am glad, too.
I re-waxed it and it does sound nice and warm but I am not sure in comparison to newer JB's because I have never played them. If the guy is selling it for $33, pick it up, and pick it up fast. If you don't like it, someone on the forum here would defientely make use of it !
The last three or four used duncans I bought were wound by MJ. I'm beginning to think she wound every pickup assembled in the '80s.
