LOL!!!!!!!!!
hey jerry cantrell has great tone after all
JB in an alder Strat is the quintessential 80's metal set up. It was also used for a variety of other types of music as well. That being said, I was never a fan of the JB in my old alder bodied, maple necked superstrat. It was a bit too top-endy for me. But, a lot of people really like it in that type of guitar. Be sure to let us know what you think.
I'm down, I've had that combo. A split JB does really well in a Strat style guitar.
Strat and tele's have very similar sonic properties. If you have heard performances with his Tele-Gib then you'll have an idea of what can be done with that set up. Not only 80' metal!!!
Since the JB has THAT high mid spike (that makes it sound like it is quite trebly) i wouldn't say that it is the ideal pickup for an alder strat with a maple board (infact i stopped using it in my maple neck strat). There are a lot of players out there that are using the JB in alder/maple neck guitars and get a nice sound, so maybe it is just me..............
Well I got it up and running.....Im using a 250K pot as its the only push pull one I had. So that kills some of that quot;treblyquot; side...I gotta say Im loving it! It definetly has a alot of mids that are great, tons of harmonics and I get a real eighties metal vibe for sure, but itll do quite a bit. So far so good.
Yes, unless using a Les or other warm-sounding guitar, JBs probably are better with 250k pots.
I'm gonna have to say I really like the JB in an alder guitar w/ maple neck and 500K volume and tone pots.
It sure worked well last nite:
I've got a pretty warm amp though, so that mite help, but I got all the tones I've been searching for for a long time. The Invader was too bassy, and the JB is perfect.
Fender Deluxe double fat strat with TB-4 J bridge and '59 neck

I might do the opposite! Too trebly sounding in my strat.
