I'm guess ing Paf Pro Dimarzio's, but does anyone have anymore insight??

An insight? If you think think it takes more than a metal distortion, a chorus and a delay set for something short to get CC's sound, you are tonally adrift in a sea of hairspray.

Just kidding! (sort of). I have no idea and I really think it doesn't matter. I will say I think he is often put down for no good reason. He plays stuff that works perfectly for the songs. If you want vituosity - don't listen to Poison. But for Party-Pop-Metal, He's great. Very tasty (Although, not in a Neal Schon/Steve Lukather sort of way...)

He had a ton of guitars, his tone came from his randall amps and rack. My Fender M-80 gets his tone

He did have tons of guitars. He was mostly known for playing BC Rich guitars.

I am betting he was a user of either the Duncan Distortion or the Duncan JB.

I have seen one of his quot;so calledquot; guitars for sale on Ebay with a Dimarzio Superdistortion in it.

Maybe he used the Duncan quot;Custom Customquot; model?

Custom Custom...CC... get it?

Boo, Hiss,

since u brought it up do u like the cc?

He also played plenty of Charvels.

And, yes, I do like CC.....

Can't say, I've never tried a CC.

Again, detailed analysis of the quot;CC DeVille soundquot; down to pups, picks, strings etc. is missing the point. And for the sake of argument - let's not confuse CC Deville with the CC pup! One rocks (the pup) and the other, well...I'm sure the Mick Mars thread can't be much better. Almost any multi-effect processor on the market probably has an over effected 80's hair metal preset that is pretty close if not spot on for the Poison/Ratt/Winger/Trixter/Europe/GreatWhite/etc. sound. I can't believe this thread made it to seven responses!

LMAO...CC and Mick mentioned in the same thread...my 2 FAVE guitarists

....Winger.........Europe....sound

Hey now!
...Reb Beach and John Norum got some killer tones..yeah...they were a little nuts on effects at times....but much better than most hair metal band tones...

G'slinger, if you want hair metal, your best bet is the JB. I don't know for certain what he used, but that should get you close.

Of course, I've also heard somewhere that he used Gibson Melody Makers on some of their songs. AFIK, they all had P-90s, so a humbucker wouldn't work in that case. Although, the guy may have been talking out his butt.

I think you'd be happy with the JB.

Mars and DiMartini had some killer tone, too.

I absolutely love Mars's earlier tone....so damn thick, you need a big straw to get that stuff through.

CC Deville is actually a classically trained guitarist. He took advantage of what the times called for, and it worked. I'd let you all make fun of me if it meant spending 10 years getting paid millions of dollars touring the world, playing guitar for 20,000 fans a night and getting my pick of groupies every show.

Laugh at me all you want.....or just talk dirty to me.

you're a naughty boy

HAHA, now we're up to 17 replies here. Actually, I just installed a J-90c that sounds more like Vito Bratta's tone, which I prefer to CC's tone.

Whatever works, man. I'm glad we could help....er...

I'm glad you found something you liked, despite the fact that we weren't much help.

I'm with D!ck, a JB would get you in a hairmetal neighborwood. As far as CC goes he played alot of different guitars. On Fallen angel I can get pretty close with my strat (bridge/middle) with APS'.

Food for thought.
