I posted this in the guitar forum by mistake earlier, but I am looking to get a bridge pup for my Tele that is ULTRA twangy. I want that really cornball, quacky country spank sound. What is the best pup out there that you guys have heard? It doesn't have to be a SD, but if it is a SD that's a plus.
Some kinda alnico 5 Tele pickup with raised polepieces. Maybe a Duncan '54 Tele lead. Or a Fralin Tele Stock. Both are bright and twangy. You could also try the Duncan Tapped Tele Hot and you'll get a real hot output for pushing your amp hard and a lower output that's more vintage and bright and twangy. You probably do not not want an alnico 2 pickup like the Jerry Donahue for the type of steely, country twang you seem to be after. Lew
Fender 52 RI bridge pickup. Even though it's got Alnico 3 magnets, it's not quite as conpressed (to my ears) as the Duncan Vintage 54.
I have the Hot Tele lead (tapped) myself and it does a good job of twangy country. Another pickup to look at is the Broadcaster Lead. I had it in my ash Fernandez and it was very twangy.
I agree on the 54 that is one twangy fello. Has a lot of whiney characteristics.
