If cost isn't an issue, what's the coolest dual el84 1x12 amp, or similar? Plase discuss your quot;gear aquisition syndromequot; for these little gems
Can you go 2 watts more? my mesa boogies studio .22 kicks a fair amount of arse!
Hamp;K Edition Tube? It's nice....
DST U84....but it's a 2x12.
20 of the loudest friggin' watts I've ever heard...
2 EL84s amp; 4 12AX7s
Ch 1 = Hiwatt
Ch 2 = Marshall SLP
G12H30/V30 combo....
Bada$$ amp!!!
60s to 70s Traynor Bassmate head or Combo. Very much a Mar-vox sound. Loud as hell too. I changed the filtering values and a couple other caps which was extremely easy. This amp sounds beautiful. Wonderful clarity with lots of grind. If you hit my page , listen to Bassmate and da Thang. Just some shizzle, but you get the feel of the amp. At 250.00 to 300 you could buy plenty of em!!
I love the Boogie 22, too! Someday I'll buy one to replace the one I sold in a typical fit of lunacy.
I covet one of the Victoria EL84 amps.
I'd probably go for a Carr Rambler. Although those may be 6L6 or 6V6 I forget. They are basically a Deluxe Reverb with a lot more headroom.
if cost isn't an issue ...
65 Amps London
oh, sorry - it's 2 x 12 - still, they sound unbelievable
check the Snyders
there are so many cool amps out there now, it's hard to keep up
I'd personally go with a MArshall 1974(x) or some 18 Watt clone. Neat little amps. I played a Badcat and it was nice, but I'm not quite sure why they are so highly regarded.
the badcat cub IIr is great!!
Dr. Z Maz Jr. 18W. I've never heard the 1x12, but the 2x10 is unbelieveable.
I've played several 15-watt dual EL-84 amps, and I've owned a few, including a Fender Pro Jr. (traded away), an Orange AD15 (now on consignment), and a Bad Cat Cub IIR that is my #1 amp now. I got a great deal on it because it was a floor model, so I ended up with reverb at a non-verb price; however, I would have been happy enough with the non-verb version.
The Cub is extremely versatile with great clean through OD tones and incredible low end for a 1x12 combo. It has a very usable master volume that can be disabled, as well as incredibly powerful active and interactive bass and treble controls that are also defeatable. It takes some experience to get the hang of the interactive tone controls and cut control, but it works great with all of my guitars (Teles, Strats, Gibsons). It also works well with my Fulldrive 2 and Bad Bob Booster, so I can effectively get a second channel out of it for solo boosts.

That's what I was thinking...although I've never heard one.
Everyone seems to think very highly of that legendary amp though.
I have to say that my Matchless SC-30 in the lo power mode with two of the four EL-84's disengaged is pretty spectacular too though!

does a celtic franklin count ... if so, i am all about the fitzmagic ... oh wait - is that a EL34, or EL84? ... they make those names so confusingly similar ... same with 6L6 and 6V6 and 12AX7 and 12AT7 and 12AU7 ...

This one.Read all about it here.
Although if I wasn't genetically DIY-inclined, I'd go with a reissue Marshall 20 Watter with that super-cool 2x12 vertical slant cab.
Thanks Bill, it's 2xel84.
I like the tone of hte Franklin so much I am selling my two Rock (which is over 3 times more expensive). Perfect amp for my situation.
There have also been some old blackface Deluxe Reverbs that I've really loved. I'll be building myself one of those sometime soon.
I've loved every AC15 I've ever played.

Please, don't misunderstand me Lew (or anyone else) ...the Badcat I played sounded FANTASTIC...I just thought it wasn't so fantastic to charge the prices they ask for them (same way I feel about Bogners, Soldanos, and other really high end boutique amps as well). It was a little 15 watt amp they wanted like $2600 for
The Marshall reissue is overpiced too though...I'd have Trace at Voodoo or someone else build me one . I found the sound of the 18 watter more quot;marshallyquot; and less quot;voxyquot; compared to the Badcat...The Vox/Badcat type sound is more jangly and sweet...the 18 Watt is a bit more quot;brashquot; and quot;raunchyquot; like a Marshall should be ..and which I prefer
Im gonna have to say the Hughes and Kettner edition tube. I love everything about mine.
The Bad Cat Cub should come in at a price that is very similar to the Marshall 18-watt RI (just over $2K with reverb, about $500 less without). I think it does come down to whether you prefer a Vox-related tone (Bad Cat, Matchless, etc.) or a Marshall tone. I'd like one of each, but at these prices that's not too likely. The Savage Macht 12 (or 6) is another one to look at, although it's a dual 6V6 design -- supposedly somewhat of a Marshall flavor despite the tube selection -- should be under $1500 with tremolo.
