Hi, I´m going to put a SD Vintage Rails on the neck position of a Standard Strat (MIM), leaving the middle and bridge stock. I know the best would be to replace all the pup´s but I really can´t do it right now so I´m gonna change just the neck one.

I wanna replace it all by myself, I have some experience with the soldering gun and I think I can handle it but I don´t know anything about impedance, polarity, phase, or any of that.
The questions are: .
Could I still do it?
What is the correct way to wire this? (The Vintage Rails has 3 wires)
Have any of you guys done this and succeed?

Sorry about the long post but I don´t wanna have problems with the phase and especially with the 2nd position. Just want my guitar to sound as it was stock, but without hum on the neck

Thanks

Anybody?... please.

Welcome to the SD User Group Forum mancas.

The installation will be fairly straight forward and the instructions will be in the packaging. With Fender single coils there is a phase issue so wire the white wire to the switch and the red and plain wires to ground. Because you will still have a Fender single coil in the middle position your #2 switch selection will no longer be hum cancelling but the neck pickup (vintage rail) will be hum cancelling.

Thanks Robert, Is there anything I can do to keep this position humcancelling? or it just can´t be done. Does this have anything to do with quot;fliping magnetsquot;? what does this mean?.

Thanks again

hi mancas ... no, there is nothing you can do to make that position #2 humcancelling because the middle pickup that you will be combining with the new neck pickup is single coil ... dont worry about flipping magnets, that only applies to double coil humbuckers ... so you will only have one position of hum cancelling until you upgrade the other pickups ...

welcome to the board and good luck

let us know how you like the new sound

cheers
