I use a Beta 58 vocal mic that I do like but ia m looking for something better. Live use only. I have already tried the audix stuff and want something else.
Are Sennheiser mics better? How about the E835? Another Sennheiser maybe? Any help is appreciated.

The Beta 58 is a fully professional, top-of-the-line mic. Regarding mics in that catagory and price range, it gets into personal preference and how they work with your voice. I wouldn't say any are particularly better. Maybe try a Beta 87 or an SM87 or 86, you may like the sound of condenser mics better. Just bear in mind that they need phantom power. I've heard good things about some of those BLUE ball (sorry) mics. Other than that, the only way to figure it out is to try them and see what you like.

for live use, i really don't see the beta series being beaten man (i was at reading all weekend, EVERY SINGLE vocal mic was a beta 58!)

1 for looking at different models in the range man

My singer uses the Evo mic from Sennheiser; it's a VERY powerful mic, but I find it a bit harsh sounding for my taste.

What don't you like about the 58? Maybe it's the PA you're using, not the mic?

Yeh, I really can't think of anything that would be better than a Beta 58 for live use.

the 835 is a cool mic, better than a normal 58 but the beta 58 is a great live mic.

the blue mics and condenser mics tend not to be great for live performance

if you want something different (maybe better) try a beta 87 or maybe a sennheiser e945

I used the beta 58 in alot of different venues. It is great but I like the studio shure that I just used (silver and oval?) I wanted a live mic similar to it. I have not heard the beta 87. What is the difference sonically? Thanks
