Hi guys,
I am actually looking for a full body guitar to play anything from blues to jazz. I have tried lately American Delux strats with noiseless pick-ups, one version with 3 single coils and the other with humbucker at the bridge. I found the HSS better because it seemed to have a fatter sound, but still not what I am looking for. As I was reading and hearing the pick-up descriptions, I came across a description of a set up with the SL59-1 little 59 at the neck, the SJBJ-1b at the bridge and the SDBR-1n in the middle. I pretty liked the tones I heard here and a question came up to me: would it not be better in my case to get a basic American strat and let these pick-ups be built in? Would I then really need the S-1 switching system. Thanks for your help,
Scratch
Hi scratch, and welcome to the forum.
The Deluxe Strats come with SCN pickups (designed by Bill Lawrence) and although they are great pickups, if you find that they're not for you, then get a regular American Standard Strat and throw in the Everything Axe set, which is the set you described. Very versatile set. If you find the JB Jr to be too hot, then a Little 59 in the bridge would work.
As for the S-1 switching system with them, somebody else would have to answer that one. I'm not very familiar with it. You wouldn't quot;havequot; to keep it, I know that.
I think the S1 switch just puts the coils in series. My Fender Deluxe Tele does that. You can do the same with a Push/Pull pot.
Hi Amateur and Erik,
Your posts are most helpful, thank you so much. I have decided to order an american Strat which I will play a while and then see what I exactly want for pickups on it(certainly in the direction described in my first post). I think it's pretty cool to customise a basic Strat. Gives me the feeling I am investing in myself...I hope we will be discussing this subject again once I get my Strat,
take care,
scratch
The noisless pickups in Deluxe Strats are SCN, Samarium Cobalt Noisless pickups and they're pretty close to humbuckers. They're stacked singles. The S1 switch does a few different things, like put the neck and bridge in series, or parallel, etc. Just a little more info for ya
