He saved me from spending $85 to have the bridge pickup in my Nighthawk rewound. I've got it straight, and I LIKE IT. Never knew a Gibby could sound so much like a Strat.
You Rock!
Glad to hear that everything worked out for you! So tell me about your Blueshawk- does the Blues 90 pickup with the dummy coil sound like a real P-90? I guess you put in a Pearly Gates for the neck but the bridge pickup is still stock- right?
It's not really like a P-90, more like a really fat Strat single coil. It is design like a Strat pickup, alnico 5 and magnetic polepices. The bridge pickup has a chime like a Fender single, but it holds up under high gain like a P-90. The dummy coil totally kills the noise too, it's great. I haven't accually changed out the neck pickup yet, it invloes routing a bit and I've been lazy. I cheated in my sig., don't tell anyone. The neck pickup is very warm. With the Varitone, you can make it sound convincingly like an acoustic guitar. you can get some good jazz tones, you get the idea. I like it, I just don't think it's my style right now. I think I'd like a PG in it more.
While we're thanking Steve, I should add that my Classic 50 has never sounded better than it has since I modded it to his specs.
